Eucros
Eucros is a landmass conventionally considered a continent in its own right because of its great physical size and the weight of its history and traditions. It is bordered by the Shivering Sea to the North, the Sorrow Sea to the south, the Bone Mountains to the east, and the Empty Sea to the west. Eucros is largely governed by The United Republic of Carcosa, and Eucrosian culture is the root of western civilization. The division of Eucros and Shuhos reflects the east-west cultural, linguistic, and ethnic differences of the two regions.
Geography
Eucros is considerably smaller than Shuhos, though its true extent is unknown as no map of the entire continent currently exists. In the far north lie the Wastes, where a large amount of land remain uncharted due to the extreme cold and rough terrain. Eucros' western coast borders on the Empty Sea, while its southern coast borders on the Sorrow Sea. The border between Eucros and Shuhos is generally considered to be divided by the Ruby Mountains, the Dundao Desert, and the Great Plains.Wastes
The Wastes, or Northern Wastes, also called the true north, is an unforgiving frozen wasteland of mountains and glaciers that make up the northern edges of Eucros. The Wastes share a border with the Shivering Sea to the east. It is unknown how far the lands of the Wastes continue, as no maps currently exist north of the Ghost Mountains. The Wastes present an extremely harsh climate, and strange beasts are said to roam among the mountains.Northern Realm
The Northern Realm, commonly referred to as the north, or the northern kingdoms is the northernmost inhabited territory in Eucros, stretching from the Ghost mountains to the north to the Mountains of the Moon in the south. The north consists of vasts forests, fjords, tundras, swamps, and valleys and is home to many different races, with the largest population of Dwarves, Halflings, and Gnomes in the known world. The Northern Realm has access to both the Shivering Sea and the Empty sea on both its east and west borders, making northern fishermen reknowned throughout the world.Firenzeie
Firenzeie is the central lands of Eucros surrounding the Cobalt Sea that have a dry temperate climate, with the Mountains of the moon marking the northern border. The lands of Firenzeie are fertile, and the region is world reknowned for its fine wine and cuisine and beautiful landscapes. Firenzeie is mostly governed by the Kingdom of Aegis, which has etched a long standing culture in the region through a 1000 year long history of conquest and reformation. The Kingdom of Aegis was eventually absorbed by The Republic after the kingdom was defeated during the Republics conquest of Eucros in 1649. Today, the kingdom's legislation is ruled by a small council of 4 nobles which serve as representitives in the Republic's Grand Assembly, while military and diplomatic matters are governed by the Aegesian King, King Raphael Montclair.The Ruby Mountains
The Ruby Mountain range marks the eastern border of Eucros, and is a natural barrier from the Dundao Desert. The Ruby Mountains were named due to the abundant gem deposits found in its caves. The Ruby Mountains are the source of both Lake Vermeille and Lake Seton, as well as countless rivers and streams in the surrounding region. The Seton river runs directly inside the Ruby Mountain range through a network of subterranean tunnels, and provides easy access to the Underdark.The Cobalt Sea
The Cobalt Sea is a large saltwater sea in central Eucros, fed by the Broken Gulf to the west. The largest body of water in Eucros, the Cobalt Sea stretches roughly 800 leagues from east to west. The sea is named after the deep blue color of its waters, and has been a long standing hub of trade and conquest, with many major Firenzeien cities located on its shores, most notably the capital city of Aegis. The Broken Gulf flows into the Cobalt Sea through the Theta river. In 1653 the United Republic of Carcosa and the Kingdom of Aegis expanded the Theta river delta to allow for a greater shipping lane, creating what is now the city of Theta Pass; which serves as the The Republic's most key shipping lane.Lake Vermeille
Lake Vermeille is a freshwater lake located in southeast Eucros, fed by the Vermeille river, which runs down from the Ruby mountains to the east. Lake Vermeille, and the areas surrounding, are located in a region with a notably increased magical presence due to the plentiful abundance of naturally forming Arcane Quartz crystals. Due to this magical presence, the region is famous for its vibrant flora and fauna of towering trees, mushroom forests, and mythical beasts, with the very waters of the lake itself known to have a variety of arcane properties. Several arcane universities and institutions operate in the region, most notably being the Catarina Royal Academy, which lay on an island in the middle of the lake. The lakelands, and the great forests of Sethor to the south, have been the ancestral homelands of the High Elven Enclave, which has since been absorbed by The Republic during their conquest of Eucros in 1649, and is the province with the highest high-elven population in the Republic to this day.Southern Eucros
Southern Eucros, also known as Lancaster province, is the large peninsula that makes up the southernmost part of Eucros. Lancaster province is the warmest region in Eucros, with a temparate climate in the north and a tropical climate in the south and is home to jungles, hills, swamps, shrublands, and the giant forests of Sethor. The Sorrow sea lies on the southern border, with the Ruby mountains on the eastern border. Lancaster is the least populated province in The Republic, with a notably sparse population outside of major urban settlements. By extension, the province is also the least developed in the Republic, and suffers from a high rate of crime and is often subjected to frequent attacks by the Matsumaya Dominion. In recent years, the Republic has made great efforts to strengthen their military presence in the area, and have reinforced the border city of Port Kirahe significantly.
