Personal history
Born to Noah and Millian Karnstein.
Noah died in a hunting mission when Anna was still young. Millian resigned from the Guild following her husband's death, and raised Anna all by herself.
Having little memory of her father, Anna desperately needed a fatherly figure to look up to. When she turned eight, the Magisters of the Guild of Rosenschwert came to her house. Anna immediately felt an attachment to the Grand Magister, Albert van Helsing. However, Millian was cold to the Magisters, because she does not want the Guild took her daughter as well.
Anna on the other hand was thrilled by the idea, she felt that becoming a Hunter draws her closer to her father. Millian was frustrated, but eventually came to agree that Anna would go to Castle Vetenburg for training, and for training only! And the Grand Magister Albert van Helsing will be in charge of her education and safety.
Anna spend the majority of her childhood in the Castle Vetenburg, as well as her family estate, now left to be managed by her mother alone. Anna loves and respects her mother, but all of their conversation seemed to end up an argument. Every time, Anna had to turn to her mentor Albert for comfort and advice. This eventually led to her growing closer and closer to her mentor.
Against Millian's will, Anna joined the Guild once she turned 18, and confessed to her mentor Grand Magister van Helsing. Albert being troubled by his own family issues at that time, enjoyed Anna's company. They stayed together for a very short period of time, and Albert came to his sense that Anna has mistaken her longing for a father from love. So he turned Anna down but continued to support her in her missions and training.
Anna on the other hand did not back down. One night under the influence of alcohol, she knocked on Albert's bedroom door. Albert was able to snap out of it before things get to the next level. He carried Anna to her own room, and had a very formal conversation with her the following morning, telling her what they did was highly inappropriate.
Anna, feeling hurt and abandoned, grew bitter towards her formal mentor. To distract herself, Anna shifted her focus on her Guild duty.
For centuries the house Karnstein felt dishonoured by having a vampiress, Mircalla Karnstein, in their family line. So Anna made a personal goal of hunting down every vampire she encountered to clear her family name. And her biggest prize is none other than the Lylthian princess, Alinna Innunna.
