Moon Signs

In Lunis the phase of the moon that a person was born under is considered a signifier of their character and relationships with others. Each phase of the moon also has a direct counterpart. The Lunan terms for different phases of the moon have been translated directly.

Phase name translations

The white moon and the black moon are what we refer to as the full moon and new moon respectively. The crescent moon changes meaning depending on which way the crescent is facing, the right crescent and left crescent are considered distinct phases. 
The first and third quarter moons are referred to as the eye phases, 'right eye' and 'left eye.' The phases we refer to as gibbous are referred to as 'incomplete' in Lunan. Paired together they are 'incomplete white' (waxing gibbous in our world) and 'incomplete black' (waning gibbous in our world). It should be noted that the word used for 'incomplete' can also mean 'unbalanced.'

The meaning of each phase

White: The moon of change. As the phase that signals the end of the month the white moon is considered the most powerful. Those born under the white moon are said to be destined to create some great change. In terms of personality people with the white moon as their sign are said to be trustworthy, diplomatic, and honest. On the downside they can be vain and desperate for attention, sometimes their honesty may be considered unneeded. It should also be noted that Lunans consider destruction a form of change.
Black: The moon of stability. To be born under the black moon is a sign of upholding order and maintaining the status quo. A person with the black moon as their moon sign is considered quiet, reliable, and attentive. For negative traits they can be secretive and distant.
Left Crescent: The moon of artists. Left Crescents are creative and willing to take risks. However they can be careless or impractical.
Right Crescent: The moon of craftsmen. People born under the Right Crescent are said to be focused and practical, which sometimes manifests as tunnel vision and being too pragmatic.
Left Eye: The moon of compromise. Those who have the Left Eye as their moon sign are focused on family and friends, sometimes to the point of forgetting their own needs.
Right Eye: The moon of contentment. This moon sign is associated with a focus on simple pleasures and making the most of things, which can lead to missing out on opportunities and having a self centered view of things.
Incomplete White: The moon of ambition. Under this moon sign people are optimistic and have grand ideas. They can also be unknowingly selfish or naive.
Incomplete Black: The moon of caution. The influence of this moon can make someone observant and knowledgable. Its influence can also result in someone being pessimistic or unreliable.
