Alyeska
Alyeska incorporates nearly all of the lands north of the Arbiter Mountains. It experiences warm summers and bitter cold winters.
Most of Alyeska is not rich in natural resources but it makes great efforts to market its large logs and to find favorable exchanges for its gold and silver.
Alyeska has little infrastructure and travel over land is by trail or river.
The country of Alyeska is so large that communication from one end to the other is delayed. Governing from a national level happens rarely. Most government is by small guilds that maintain only what is beneficial for them. This includes things like ports, which they charge service fees for use.
Alyeska has no standing military or militia. Guilds provide mercenary defense when necessary and villages and towns are left to provide their own protection from fire, weather, bandits and wild animals.
Alyeskans trace their ancestry to the dependents of the Vildemin, who stil exist in the rugged Arbiter Mountains.
Alyeskans practice Shamanistic Animism. Many tribes are still nomadic. “The Gods are in the Animals”

Structure
There is no centralized government in Alyeska. Small local governments rule in villages, towns, and cities throughout the country. There are larger, provincial type, governments in Luck's Landing, Winter's Harbor, and North Anchorage.
Culture
Alyeskan culture is centered around survival with, and by the grace of, the land. There is a sense of panpsychism among Alyeskans, and if not panpsychism an overwhelming personification of nature. Phanien is far and away the most respected of the lesser gods in Alyeska.
Public Agenda
With virtually no central government, the agendas of Alyeskans comes from individual trade groups. Lumber, silver, and gold merchants are forced to become master salesmen, finding new ways to market their wares to the rest of Empyria.
Assets
Alyeska has small amounts of gold and silver ores mainly panned from rivers and streams in the Arbiter Mountains. It also has large forests and subsequently lumber. In the west of Alyeska, near Luck's Landing, grow very large trees called bluepine. These trees produce lumber of an exceptional blue color and unmatched strength and quality.
Demography and Population
Alyeska is inhabited by all nationalities. Luck's Landing was settled by Stricers who came over and around the Arbiter Mountains in the west. Winter's Harbor was founded by Carvasians that came over the Arbiter Mountains in central Alyeska. And North Anchorage was first populated by East Bijouans that came over and around the Arbiter Mountains in the east.
Territories
Alyeska has soft borders with Striceland, Carvasia and East Bijou along the Arbiter Mountains. To the east, along the Deep River, Alyeska has a hard border with East Bijou. To the north and west are ocean.
Military
The closest Alyeska has to an army are the small reaction forces (militias) of local men and women who would gather in defense of their own village, town, or city. Alyeska does not have a navy, making it vulnerable to piracy in the warm months.
Foreign Relations
Alyeska maintains good relations with all countries in Empyria, if only because they are deemed such a small threat and have so little to offer. They are often thought less of, if they were thought of at all, by Stricers and Bijouans. Alyeska has the best relationship with Carvasia. During the long winter months, Carvasian ships continue to deliver food stores to Alyeska's three major port cities, preventing widespread starvation. All Alyeskans hold Carvasia and its citizens in high regard.

Currency
Alyeska has no official currency. Nearly all trade within its borders is done via bartering. Currency is collected from the sale of export goods to Striceland, Carvasia, and East Bijou. These coins are used to purchase imports from those same countries. Typical bartering items include raw gold and silver, alcohol, and tobacco.
