Lake Kelpie Geographic Location in How to Live in a Fantasy World | World Anvil

Lake Kelpie

One of the three larger bodies of water in the The Black Forest. Alongside side Lake Dŵr and Lake Mare.

Geography:

All three lakes in the The Black Forest are immensely deep and have a steep elevation kin to calderas. It is unknown, how they were formed. Only Lake Dŵr has permanent settlement near it.   Lake Kelpie is the northern most lake in the The Black Forest and the source of the river that goes southwards all the way to Crowald and the inner parts of the realm.   The taiga of The Black Forest slowly turns into tundra on the northern parts. Standing up on the tall ridges, lets one see to the glacial sea up north. There is an old road that leads all the way to the glacial sea.

Settlements

It is common knowledge that there used to be a settlement by Lake Kelpie and Lake Mare. While the settlement in Lake Mare simply vanished one day, the settlement in Lake Kelpie was simply abandoned. No one knows what happened.   Lake Kelpie used to be part of a lucrative trading route, whalers hunted whales and then they were brought through the road to Lake Kelpie and loaded on a ship heading towards the capital. No one really knows why or when.   The fishermen in Dwyrsport refuse to travel to Lake Kelpie, saying it brings a terrible luck. No fish has been caught in Lake Kelpie for as long as people can remember. However dead fish constantly wash ashore in lake Kelpie. The fishermen superstition dictates that there are monsters living in the lake.
