Dwyrsport Settlement in How to Live in a Fantasy World | World Anvil

Dwyrsport

Located roughly 200 kilometers north of the city of Crowald at the shore of Lake Dŵr.   It is the only fishing town in the The Black Forest, although there used to be three. It is also the northernmost settlement in the realm. While under the jurisdiction of Crowald. Run by an elected mayor, its administration is practically only done during the summer months, when the mayor makes a trip south to Crowald and talks with the officials from the legislative council. House of Acedia rarely meddles with the affairs of Dwyrsport or its people.   With it a population of only slightly above 2000 people. Dwyrsport is ideal for those who don't ask or talk much. They live simpler lives than rest of the residents of Crowald. During winter time they also trade with the Poro people. However, unlike in the south, the fair folk of Dwyrsport is mainly interested in charms and trinkets made by the Poro mystics.   The expected lifespan in Dwyrsport is much lower than in rest of Crowald and most live in conditions that would be considered poverty in Crowald. The people of Dwyrsport don't have to pay any taxes, and House of Acedia doesn't keep a track of its residents.

Life

The people from Dwyrsport spend almost the whole year fishing, with the exception of winter. They lead a very simple life with very few profession outside of fishing. The money the make from selling fish in Crowald during summer, is all spent on buying new supplies to keep the profession going.   During winter months, the people steer clear of Lake Dŵr and stay usually indoors. Only coming out when the Poro people make their long journey south to Crowald to trade with them.   The people in Crowald are reserved and mistrusting towards them. Mostly due to their rough manners and lack of gossip. Their eyes are also gloomy and depressed which is a stark opposite to the people living in rest of Crowald.   Outsiders don't usually visit them, preferring to leave during the night than stay overnight. The town is eerily quiet with even the children keeping their mouths shut. The loudest sounds that can be heard in the town are the occasional barks of a dog or caws from a crow. The people are often so quiet that their mere presence may startle outsiders.   Despite all this they are honest hard workers, often subjected to prejudice and scorn. They don't let it stick, and by the end of the day they usually just have a drink before going to sleep.
