Urogus
Urogus, or “skin scorching,” is a Reminian Hooman ritual where Sun Eaters will stand near the planet surface, allowing their skin to become scorched by the Reminian sun. It is seen show strength and a method of self-expression.
HISTORY
The practice of Urogus began with the Sun Eaters; those nearest to the planet surface found that their skin would become scorched if they didn't use proper protection under direct exposure to the Reminian sun, leaving burn scars on their skin. The Sun Eaters decided to experiment with how their skin was scorched and believed that the resulting marks were a sign of strength. Urogus then became a right of passage, with young Sun Eaters going through the process when they come of age.METHOD
Sun Eaters will wrap cloth with special patterns cut out and/or use sunscreen to cover specific areas of their body and create patterns on their skin. Some will choose to wear pieces of their usual attire to create shapes unique to the individual. They will then go outside and stand in the scorching sun. Areas not covered will become scorched black, leaving a pattern on the Reminian's body when the cloth is removed. To aid with recovery, Sun Eaters have developed a salve to cool the skin and discourage infection, which is placed onto the participants when taken out of the sun. After the process is done, the Sun Eaters will usually celebrate by cooking up a large feast.

PARTICIPANTS
Due their small numbers, all Sun Eaters will usually gather together to witness the process of Urogus, exceptions being if individuals are busy with important work. Medically-trained Sun Eaters are present to assist individuals undergoing the process on the off chance things go badly.It is rare for non-Sun Eaters to witness the process of Urogus, mostly due to the fact that the ritual takes place near the inhospitable surface.
