The Heroes' Gala

Stepping into the Silver City Museum of Art, it's all too easy to become overwhelmed by both the beauty of the venue and by simply existing in the same space as the guests of honour. The glittering gold and white decoration with hints of black thrown in here or there in just the right place to be completely stunning, lights and plants from the ceiling in graceful arcs, and not to mention the art! But just when I think I might find myself staring at a fountain dancing with water and lights, one of the many Heroes here catches my eye and it hits me all over again just who I'm in this venue with.   I see Spitfire wearing a gorgeous, shimmery red and gold dress with an artful domino mask to preserve her civilian identity. Her Damsel (Drew Beckett, a TV reporter whom Spitfire is rumoured to be romantically engaged with) doesn't seem to be at her side at the moment. I wonder if perhaps it would be overly rude of me to approach her so early in the event. She's still being swarmed by other journalists and I decide I would rather not a lost in the crowd.   I scan the area for any Hero not being swarmed and find myself in awe as I lay eyes on Silver Shield. He doesn't always attend these events (and who can blame him! He's a very busy Hero) so to actually see him here is beyond anything I could have ever dreamed.   He's still wearing his full silver helmet, of course, but that (along with his colour scheme, as is tradition) he's not wearing anything else of his usual costume, instead opting for a silver and white suit that shimmers in the lights. No one has ever seen his face, but I am certain that he's wearing a winning smile under his helmet as he addresses the journalists around him.   The rest of this gala can wait, I simply have to see if I can speak with this living legend.   -An excerpt from an article on the 2027 Silver City Heroes' Gala, left unfinished due to the collapse of both timeline A and B.
The Heroes' Gala is a charity event put on by The United Order of Heroes every year to raise funds for various causes as well as making sure they themselves have enough money to continue to operate.   It is not required that the most well-known Heroes attend the Gala, but for those who don't have quite as high a profile as those who are a part of The New Guardians, it is a requirement that they attend the Gala held for their chapter of the UOH if they want to continue receiving the benefits that come with their license. Damsels are not required to attend, but if their Hero is attending, it's seen as something of a social misstep to not attend with them.   The Gala includes several events such as dinner, both silent and live auctions, dancing and a red carpet. If enough Heroes and/or Damsels volunteer, there will sometimes be an auction held for a date with a Hero or Damsel.   Opinions on the Gala vary among Heroes, with some making no secret that they dislike the event while others have declared it their favourite event of the year.
