Drisin Kir

Drisin Kir is the island fortress of the Sea Wizard, Ghilar Khannas. Here, Khannas is slowly building his powerbase in readiness for some future move.   The palace stands on a bleak, rocky island far to the southwest of Mar Miskun. Built in 2246 after Khannas' his failed rebellion in Asren Tes, this brooding stronghold stands alone against the tumultuous Gamanaean Ocean, little-known to the peoples of Helerin.

Design and construction

The keep rises from the ocean like a great, dormant beast amongst the rocks. The entire structure is hewn from a dark, sea-green stone that gives it an eerie, otherworldly appearance. A low, formidable wall encircles the main compound, broken only by a single iron gate that opens onto a narrow causeway leading to a protected cove. The fortress itself is a maze of squat towers and winding corridors, its silhouette jagged and uneven against the sky. A dome rises above the central keep, its surface marked with swirling runes that seem to shift and glow in the light of the moon.   The entrance hall is dark and foreboding, its walls lined with grotesque carvings of ocean beasts and storm deities. Ghilar Khannas’s affinity for the sea is evident in every corner of Drisin Kir. The fortress’s many passages and chambers are decorated with twisted coral, the bones of ancient sea creatures, and strange pearls that emit a ghostly light. Salt encrusts the stone floors, and a faint briny scent lingers in the air. The constant roar of the ocean can be heard through the narrow windows, a reminder of the raw power that surrounds the island.   The inner sanctum of Drisin Kir is known as the Hall of Tempests, a shadowed and silent chamber where Khannas conducts his arcane studies. This space is dominated by a large, circular pool at its centre, its surface rippling with water drawn directly from the ocean. Magical wards and sigils cover the walls, and the air hums with latent power. It is here, beside this dark and fathomless pool, that Khannas communes with the creature that has made Drisin Kir its lair—a monstrous Sea Serpent, kept in check only by the Sea Wizard’s will.   Drisin Kir’s underground chambers descend deep into the bedrock of the island. These tunnels are narrow and winding, lit only by the faint glow of sea crystals embedded in the walls. It is here that Khannas stores his most prized treasures and darkest secrets. Above ground, the keep’s wide, flat rooftops and balconies offer panoramic views of the churning ocean. The winds here are strong and unrelenting, howling around the stone walls and whipping the waves below into a constant frenzy.

The Rathan-Garr

The Rathan-Garr, a colossal sea serpent covered in dark green scales, is a creature of myth and terror. It lurks in the deep water beneath the keep, its presence only hinted at by the occasional ripple or gleam of its phosphorescent eyes beneath the surface.   This fearsome predator, which could easily crush a ship with its coils, is both guardian and prisoner, bound to the island by Khannas’s magic. When angered, it rises from the depths, its long, sinuous form winding around the keep’s lower levels, its hissing breaths reverberating through the halls.
