To Ko

"To Ko" is a letter written by the former Handmaiden of Misery, Eliyen, addressed to her own handmaiden, Ko. As they both had entered the service of Sinister Silence, and Ko was leaving for the continent of Cadenar to act as an agent on their behalf, Eliyen wrote this letter as a warning about the manipulative nature of Silence. She did not, however, find the time to deliver the letter before Ko's departure. She thus decided to send it through the Quiet World, where it would twist and change until eventually appearing in Ko's dreams, barely recognizable.

The original contents of the letter read as such:

Silence also has words for you. Heed them well, but remember this: The Silence only ever tell partial truths or total lies. He says only things that will work to further his goals. We have not had much success with the ways of Harmony nor Misery. Perhaps the path of Silence will treat us better.

To Ko

O thou, of Silence's veiled dominion, attend!
Should Silence deign to utter words for thee to apprehend,
In earnest, mark them well, forsooth!
Yet, bear in memory this verity uncouth:
Silence, the puppeteer, whispers both truth and falsehood,
His utterances entwined in a web intricate and knotted.
Beware, for the truths He imparts, in cunning guise,
Serve naught but the furtherance of His hidden enterprise.
Such aspirations concealed from our discerning eye,
Veiled by an enigmatic shroud that beguiles.

Lo, we, hapless seekers, have traversed, in quest profound,
The path of Harmony and Misery, yet naught but despair we found.
Neither sweet harmonies nor the bittersweet agonies,
Have graced us with the solace of divine sanctities.
Perchance, it is Silence's trodden way that shall prove,
A refuge more benign, a haven to behoove,
A realm where our souls may find respite at last,
A sanctuary from the travails of the troubled past.

Mayhap, O blessed Silence, thy visage will bestow,
Upon our weary spirits, a benediction aglow,
Dispelling the shadows of our woeful plight,
And granting us succor in the vast expanse of night.
Thus, we yearn, with fervent hope and desperate plea,
That Silence, fair Silence, will set our spirits free,
From the shackles that bind us to realms unavailing,
And lead us to the worlds where serenity is prevailing.
