Mischief Magicus Rats

An Apprentice Mage, Alain Fitzhugh, on the Islands of Minerva, wanted to get back at his best friend, Stefan Tilcott, for seducing the partner he was interested in. Stefan was terrified of rats. So Alain decided to gather a many rats as he could and let them loose in his friend's house. However, Alain couldn't find but a few rats. Alain decided to use his magic to duplicate the rats once he had them in Stefan's house. Alain let himself into Stefan's house, let the rats out onto Stefan's dining room table, and murmured the duplicating spell. BUT- Alain wasn't paying attention. Stefan had been working on storing magic into an green Adana Sihiri Crystal. This caused the magic to overpower and twist the spell. The rats multiplied by the thousands, became more intelligent, and scattered. Then ended up taking over first the city and then the island. These rats have been deemed to be both sapient and sentient by the Minerva Mages Council, but their intelligence isn't very high. Some people keep them as intelligent pets, but mostly they have gone underground into the sewer to live their own lives. They can also be found playing tricks on those that have annoyed or irritated them. They really love Mischief.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Mischief Magicus Rats have developed their own language, but they also know and understand common. This is part of the magical knowledge they received when the Great Accident happened. As they have spread out across Mytilias, their own language has changed with different dialects, but they still understand one another well enough to get along.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Mischief Magicus Rats work with thieves and pirate guilds. They work as messengers and sneak thieves, help them to get inplaces that they are too big to get into. This is especially true in Calliste with the Calliste Thieves Guild where each member of the guild gets paired up with a Mischief Magicus Rat as partner. The Leader of the MM Rats of Calliste is partnered with Guildmaster Derek Frankton Longhurst III. They have been friends and partners since they were very young.
