Derek Frankton Longhurst, the third of that name, is the latest in a long line of Guildmaster for the Calliste Thieves Guild. Their hereditary control of the guild goes back more than 100 generations.   He has spent his life learning and living in the guild. He was first kidnapped at the age of six, and held for ransom by an aristocrat of the Calliste ton. They wanted Derek's father to steal the Minerva's King seal so that their trading partnership which the King had denied could be approved. Instead Derek's father let the aristocrat think he was infiltrating the castle, while guildmembers found Derek and rescued him. Then the Calliste Thieves Guild came down on everyone associated with the kidnapping. They only left the non-associated members of the family alive. However, they left them a warning that if they tried to gain revenge for them killing the kidnappers and their associates, they would kill of the whole family down to the babies.   This was not the last time that Derek was kidnapped, and the assassination attempt started once he had his coming of age ceremony.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Derek started at a young age training as an acrobat. He performed at Lumin Playroom in the afternoons. During the day, Lumin would show plays and feats of wonder to an all ages crowd, but once the sun was down, it became an louche playroom.   By the time he was a teenager, he was using those same acrobatic skills to climb buildings, mainly the houses of the rich, to steal them blind. Once he was an adult, his father started his training to take over the running of the Calliste Thieves Guild.

Identifying Characteristics

Derek has a scar across his face from under his left eye, across his lips, to his chin. He got it in a fight defending his father during an assassination attempt. The assassin used a knife that was cursed to never heal, but Derek's father paid a dragon mage to overwhelm the spell damage. The wound healed, but it scarred.

Physical quirks

Derek has Complex PTSD from all the attempted assassination and kidnappings that he has gone though, not to mention how many times attempts at assassination his father went though before finally being killed. The systems of complex PTSD show up in quirks in Derek's everyday life:
  • Braced for Trauma: Derek carries weapon with him everywhere.
  • Chronic Nightmares: One of Derek's crew is a mage that specializes in sleep magic, so that Derek can rest peacefully at least two days in five.
  • Distrusting Others: Derek's crew is small, only three others - His best friend from childhood, his godfather, and the mage that owes him his life.
  • Anxiety and Isolating: When things get tough and Derek gets anxious, he won't even speak with his friends, much less anyone else.
  • Hypervigilance: He always sits with his back to the wall, or doorways he knows are safe (like his empty bedchamber), his magical specialty is wards and he created wards that he carved into his body to alert him to nefarious people if they are in certain range.
  • Trouble Feeling/Expressing Emotions: He's never had a serious relationship outside his crew. He doesn't make friend/partners, and even when he thinks he might have found one, he can't express to them how he feels.
