Tideweaver

There are those who simply do not fit in intellectually, philosophically, or otherwise into the world they live in. There are oddball thinkers who happen to find themselves born into societies that they will never fit into, or who grow in a direction that alienates them from their homeland. Or perhaps people who found their world destroyed by some trauma or internal revelation or drive, and they sought intellectual answers to explain what they had lost. These misfits could be occultists, fringe philosophers, riddlesome oddballs, prophets without flocks, or irritating skeptics. All of them have something, be it brilliance or madness or plain old weirdness, that shines like a beacon to the great sphinx of the sea: the Tideweaver. It doesn't matter if they are good or bad, right or wrong, only that they strive to explore those thoughts or beliefs considered normally unacceptable or strange.    When one attracts the Tideweaver's attention, there is a subtle connection that pulls the dreaming mind into Astral Plane. There, in that otherworldly void-sea, the black-white water of pure contrast moves in strange patterns, a dance of a thousand unnatural tides. The usual fog of deep sleep lifts into an exciting focus, and the dreamer feels their body pick up to the heightened pace of the strange water. Then, the riddles begin - a duel of the minds. The Tideweaver, a vast serpent of elemental energy and magical stormwater, slides through puzzle-like tides and breaks the plane's gravity, turning the surface of the sea into a kaleidoscope of wonder. Still, the prodding questions continue. Gently falling, strolling through (what? Is it chaos? Or an alien order?) that place, it doesn't matter really whether you answer correctly. The Tideweaver only cares of the attempt, the confidence, the faith in one's mind. Finally, the pact can be made.    To have a pact with the Tideweaver can mean many things. Some minds serve the Tideweaver directly, furthering its arcane mission. Many more are on looser leashes, driven only to disseminate one's genius into the world and to forge an intellectual legacy. For what the Tideweaver craves most is eternal glory, proof of being the teacher and enabler of superior intellects. It wants religions praising its genius, future philosophers crooning over its students (and acknowledging its wisdom), art historians gawking at its form, and a legend as a masterful bearer of knowledge. It stokes the dreams of its warlocks, pushing them to sometimes-delusional ambitions.    Tideweaver rules the Central tropics around Izekra, Makal, West Sonev, and South Desmia.
