Sarana Tribe

The Sarana tribe are a Keamaran tribe of the Western mountains. They are an average Keamaran tribe in many ways, if one that is more insulated from foreign raids and attacks. They are also one of the more diverse tribes, with almost half the population being non-humans. This is because they are famously welcoming, and have adopted many foreign children and warriors into their ranks. These foreigners have brought with them technology, trading knowledge, and diverse skillsets that have allowed them to flourish. Their Prism group has expanded and protected their mountain refuge, and their intermingling with foreign hybrids have expanded their diet and survivability. Recently, they even took in a population of Chorical children that had been smuggled out of Analona.

Structure

The Sarana tribe has 10 elders, 4 of which are recognized as honored elders. Honored elders provide general counsel and guidance and are expected to be consulted on any major decision.   Day-to-day leadership and dispute resolution falls to 3 leaders:
  • The Chief, Meana, who manages general administration
  • The Priestess, Tenara, who manages diplomacy and ritual
  • The Guardian Meako , Erelia, who manages Meako training and tribe protection

Demography and Population

130 humanoids live in the Sarana tribe. The Sarana mountain refuge, Sarawana, is also maintained by a small colony of 25 Prisms that affiliate with the tribe but are not full members.   Age: 75 above the age of 25, 25 children, 30 between 17-25. 10 elders.   Species: 65% Human, 5% Chorical, 20% Hybrid, 10% Dryad

Territories

The Sarana tribe migrates across Keamaran territory every year, primarily in the Western reaches. Their only land that is exclusively theirs is their emergency mountain-refuge of Sarawana.

Military

Every member of the Sarana tribe is able to wield a bow and spear with some skill. Their most dangerous warriors are their Meako, the most experienced and powerful of which stays with the tribe at all times. Of the other two Saranan Meako, one wander across Keamaran lands jumping between tribes and one wanders the island as a whole.

Religion

The Sarana tribe has always been Blue Weniko, balancing Saraka and Weniko traditions carefully to preserve their traditions while remaining open to outside adoptees. Adoption of runaway foreign warriors has saved the Sarana from disaster in the past, and they are one of the more open and friendly of Loanua's tribes.   As a Keamaran tribe, they uphold the unique religious traditions of the Keamara as well as their own even more local traditions. Specifically, the Sarana tribe gives thanks to Saranin the mountain daughter- a local spirit that lives in the refuge of Sarawana. Saranin was once a girl that fell in love with the spirit of the mountain and was made whole with it when she died. Their children were the first of the Sarana tribe. She has cured many ailments and brought much good, but is most famous for giving rams and goats their horns. This was because the vile wolf-bird Eochet had created wings of obsidian knives and terrorized the land as an evil monster- and only the goats could climb high enough to knock him down. One goat hero, Korokoro, volunteered and Saranin gave him horns for his bravery. As Eochet blocked the sun and bled the sky for fun, Saranin picked up Korokoro and flung him at them- and Eochet was knocked into the sea and eaten by one thousand sharks. Every solar eclipse, the Sarana re-enact this drama and have one of their own leap into a sacred pool in Sarawana while everyone sings the song of Sarina's legend.
