Halfling

Halflings are a kind of Starspawn in Stildane - a fairly rare and recent Players Handbook Starspawn, but a kind of Starspawn that is increasingly common. Halflings mostly live in small farming communities and towns in Northern Stildane, particularly the farm-filled region known as The Delent. 
Halflings are identical to Humans, but smaller. Even Dwarves, with their gem-like eyes, metallic teeth, and mineral-rich diets are more alien. One might wonder: how are these humans-but-smaller shaped by chaos magic exactly? Can't people just be short? Well yes, humans can be naturally short and now be a different species. But Halflings are different. Halflings are nimble, swift, magically lucky, and excel at squeezing through tight spaces. Halflings have different taste buds, to which bugs taste better. Halflings are not humans mutated to be smaller: they are Yolps, mole-people, mutated to look like humans. 
Most Halflings are descended from a single event: a magical maelstrom that turned magically transformed thousands of Yolps into Halflings in the town of Hodsyarn three hundred years ago. Halflings have spent most of that time maintaining their old Yolp lifestyle and traditions: farming, building houses into hillsides, singing to the moles and worms, and maintaining large close-knit family networks. Halflings have drifted a bit into their own thing over the last few centuries, making their own clans and adapting customs to their new bodies. How interconnected Halflings are to Yolps varies from family to family, but many still break common bread and live close together as one community.
The odd luck Halflings have might be descended from that magical maelstrom, or it might be something else entirely. Halflings have yet to be studied enough to understand the nature of their luck. And Halfling luck has not translated into great financial success or social advancement. Most Halflings live as poor farmers, and Halflings as a community are ignored at best and derided as backwards at worst. Most people in Stildane don't really know what a Halfling is, and assume Halflings are just a kind of human. 
Not all Halflings are humble farmers, of course. Some have ventured from their communities to seek fortunes abroad. That said, these are a small minority - Halfling communities that identify as Halfling communities tend to have social pressures against people leaving the community.
