Nobles of Tatooine
Are there nobles on Tatooine? Many would argue against that idea, but a number of influential groups have begun talking about themselves in that way. They have banded together to ostracize the criminal elements and make the planet a safer and more lucrative place to live.
Many families trace their origin on Tatooine to early waves of colonists, who wrest control of particular areas of the planet from the older inhabitants, the Jawa and the Tusken Raiders. They feel this gives them the right to demand authority over the planet.
They oppose the Crime Lords of Tatooine. Many feel that the aid of the Empire is necessary to civilize the area. They want to negotiate a larger Imperial Presence on Tatooine and a representative position in the Senate. Others cannot see why the Empire would be interested in this dusty rock.
They have started calling the leader of a town by the title "Reeve."
The Darklighter Family
Traditional ruler of Anchorhead and instigating factor in bringing Imperial presence here. Uncomfortable with the current Imperial lock-down on their city but feels it might be necessary to achieve their desired ends. Their 20 moisture farms around the city makes them wealthy by Tatooine standards. They are happy to toss this wealth around.- Huff Darklighter: head of family. Proud to be a self-made man and eager to freely partake in the spoils of success once freed from oppressive influences like the Hutts. Strict and demanding of his children. Helped Captain Kosh of the 68th Legion at Fort Ironhand get his smuggling operation started before a moff was sent to the sector. This was an early attempt to get Imperial support.
- Biggs Darklighter: younger son of Huff. 11 years old. Friend to a young moisture farmer named Luke. He and his buddy are eager to join the Imperial academy at Arkanis as soon as possible.
The Hark Family
Not much of a family. Only one member. He has been secretly working for Jabba for many years as the holder of the Hutt's secret slave pens at Mos Entha. In the past, this activity was illegal under Republic law. Jabba felt it prudent to keep hidden. Currently, they suspect that the Imperials do not care about enforcing such things, so efforts to maintain secrecy have become lax.- Tannon Hark: oily hair and darkened expression. Distrustful of all. Although most of the other families do not know what he is involved with Jabba, most just naturally distrust him. Actively providing intel to Jabba. But the idea of "becoming a noble of Tatooine" has started to cloud his purposes. Respect by fellow citizens would be appreciated.
The Horne Family
A pair of sisters leads this family from Brajin. It is a small but prosperous city, built mainly upon their successful Bantha breeding program. This is more respected than dewbacks as Banthas are seen as more docile and controllable. Both sisters dress much alike in all black, utilitarian clothing. Nothing frivolous is worn on their persons. They look down on ostentatious displays, whether of wealth or military glory. While they are growing older, many still find them attractive and fetching.- Tika Horne: the more expressive sister. Usually does the talking, but she actually defers to her sister Doma on all matters though this is kept private. They can communicate with each other by merely a look.
- Doma Horne: the older, quieter sister. The true authority in the family although she prefers it to appear a partnership. She is reluctant to undermine her sister's authority in public. Most decisions are made behind closed doors, where the two of them can hash out what would be the right thing to do. Honor is best for the family.
The Kanke Family
Reeve of the small, old fashioned mining community of Mos Pelgo. Not much to offer. Too heavily beset by Tusken Raiders and the rigors of survival on the Dune Sea. It is pretty tough thinking of organizing against the Hutts when you are constantly worried that the town school will just sink into the sands.- Corle Kanke: longtime miner. Dislikes Larken Mining and their new fangled methods of excavation. Has met Herkin but drove him away as cheap opportunistic gold-digger.
The Larken Family
One of the oldest colonial families on Tatooine and rulers of the wealthy city of Bestine. Their vapor domes allow them to produce more grains and vegetables than anywhere else on the planet. This income is greatly supplemented by their successful business Larken Mining Co. They intend to leverage this wealth to earn them the leadership position of the planet as "Governor." Their goal is an independent Tatooine that can stand on its own two feet, repel the Hutts and other criminal elements and take their own place on the galactic stage. They are being pressured by Jabba to resist the Imperial presence by holding Satrine Larkin hostage. Taslo is not overly sentimental about the girl but chaffs under the temerity of the Hutts.- Taslo Larken: head of family. Older, portly gentleman that goes to great lengths to portray an image of colonial nobility. Constantly speaks of the bounty produced by their vapor domes.
- Mergo Larken: Taslo's young trophy wife, imported like so much of his finery. Does not like it on Tatooine and always nags about taking a vacation.
- Tas Larken: Taslo's heir. From his previous wife who has been shipped off to a medical facility off-planet for her weak nerves.
- Satrine Larken: Taslo's daughter. Calls herself "Princess Satrine." She is being held hostage by Jabba in an effort to get Taslo to support Hutt interests.
The LeKeet Family
Rivals to the Larken's. Also wants to become Governor but doubts that can be done without Imperial aid. Seeks good contacts within the Empire. Has been in contact with Moff Kestren Balor and aims to foster that relationship more in the future. Reeve of Carnthout. Important members include:- Quom LeKeet: patriarch of the family. Prior military service under the Republic before the Clone Wars and wears memorabilia of that service proudly. He would sell his grandmother for increase influence.
- Nej LeKeet: Quom's eldest son and successor. Operates Shorn Excavations and exports minerals. This brings in a good deal of income for the family. They are considered wealthy on Tatooine but that wouldn't be the case on a more prosperous planet.
- Aran LeKeet: Captain of the Sparrowhawk and space vigilante of the same name. He tries to use his fast attack ship to combat space pirates. Quom tries to keep this a secret. Nej funnels funds to Aran thinking this will help protect their mineral carriers.
The Misk Family
They are the traditional rulers of Mos Espa and did much to initiate the city's success and beautification until Gardulla the Hutt desired the place and used her immense power to take it over. They continue to serve their community, pretending to be Gardulla's lap puppies; however, they are secretly working with Quom LeKeet to overthrow Hutt control of the planet and instill Imperial rule.- Torla Misk: matriarch of the family. She was only a girl when Gardulla took Mos Espa from them and vividly remembers the resulting slaughter of her family members. She is the strongest one to advocate subterfuge and working behind the scenes to undermine their enemies.
The Rask Family
Noble family in hiding. They were the traditional rulers of Mos Eisley until losing the city to the mercenary army. Since then they continue to hide out in the city, thinking that they will eventually be able to strike from the shadows and reclaim what was theirs. Even though it is risky, they come to the noble meeting with the hope that the Imperial forces can be directed against the mercenaries.- Nolan Rask: looks more like a professor than a secret saboteur. Heavily burdened by the current situation and of a short temper due to this stress.
The Rile Family
Leaders of the small community of Mos Taike. It is a small town with few facilities. They only have one starport. They have developed a successful dewback breeding program but few care. Banthas are considered more reliable and docile.- Gramm Rile: has led this community for 20 some years. He is willing to support whoever seems to provide the best options for his community.
The Tane Family
Independent family that dislikes Larken's power grab manuevers and LeKeet's interest in the Empire but is willing to listen to both sides. Believes there must be a better way to stop the criminals. Rulers of Daiville on the Central Pass. Theirs is a small, tight-knit family and community that always seems to just make ends meet.- Prospero "Pros" Tane: a tall, middle-aged man that works hard and rarely has much to say. Quiet and observant.
- Sarai Tane: Pros' daughter and main support. She is as sensible as her father and willing to work just as hard. When she was younger, she turned from her responsible ways and started a relationship with the combustible Aran LeKeet. They remain good friends although she does not support his vigilante efforts.
The Terrik Family
A large family in a small town. Operate a salvage business out of Findal and seek to make it a nice place to live. Have driven off bandits and desert raiders before. Willing to do the same now.- Typho Terrik: hard as nails. Ancient as the sands. Expects a great deal from his offspring, but fiercely loving and loyal towards them.
The Willit Family
Displaced. Least powerful family on Tatooine. Use to be the reeves of Mos Shuuta but most died when Teemo the Hutt was sent to take it over. Only Annie remains, as a half-crazy homeless woman in the Dust of Mos Shuuta.- Anne Therese "Annie" Willit: roams the streets of her former town. Despairing in grief.
