School of Clerkship

This prestigious institution stands second only to Grey College in both size and history, though its focus is far more specialized.

Unlike its rival across Clerkburg, the School of Clerkship lacks a picturesque campus or the grand edifices of the Hall of Deans. Instead, its practical and austere halls reflect its unwavering commitment to scholarship and precision.

Despite its more modest reputation, the School of Clerkship boasts an enrollment nearly as large as Grey College ’s, with students graduating in half the time due to the intense two-year foundational programs. Advanced four- and six-year tracks exist for those pursuing expertise in finance, diplomacy, or knowledge scribing. Its tuition is also notably cheaper, costing only two-thirds of what students might pay at Grey College.

The school retains its outdated name out of stubborn tradition, reflecting a certain underdog mentality that permeates its student body. Though they regularly challenge their rivals—including the Bardschool and Grey College—in arena events and competitions, they seldom claim victory. However, their academic excellence is unparalleled, particularly in record-keeping, linguistic precision, and investigative research.

The Clerkship curriculum is rigorous, beginning with a mandatory two-year course in Enscription, which trains students in dictation, penmanship, and document authentication. Those who continue may specialize in:

  • Finance: Mastering bookkeeping, accounting, and high-level moneychanging—a skill set that makes graduates highly sought after by bankers and guildmasters.
  • Journalism & Diplomacy: Developing expertise in persuasion, observation, mapmaking, and investigative writing—an emerging discipline increasingly valued by ambassadors, spies, and intelligence networks.

A Clerkship-trained observer, capable of drafting accurate reports, maps, and illustrations, is far more valuable than an illiterate cutpurse. Graduates often find unexpected prestige as trusted scribes, diplomats, and chroniclers—roles that shape the politics and economy of the Free City.
