Grey College
A bastion of scholarship and learning, Grey College has long produced some of the most brilliant minds in the civilized world.
Its rigorous entrance standards ensure that only the most dedicated scholars gain entry, though scholarships are granted to exceptional students from distant lands or humble origins.
The college’s heart lies within a cluster of imposing buildings, though its influence extends far beyond—the Astronomy School’s observatory even stands outside Clerk’s Gate. The three largest structures are:
- The Hall of the Dean – The oldest and most labyrinthine of the college buildings, this towering structure looms over the Processional, its winding staircases and hidden chambers housing libraries, laboratories, and faculty offices. Here, one may find the School of Geography tucked between the School of Alchemy’s laboratories, with other disciplines woven throughout the halls.
- College Hall – A masterpiece of classical architecture, College Hall contains the faculty offices, the main library, classrooms, and meeting halls.
- Timber Hall – A simple but functional structure, Timber Hall contains the majority of lecture halls and instructional rooms.
A Hub of Thought and Debate
Beneath the Hall of the Dean, a hidden gem awaits—an exclusive tavern and restaurant, renowned as the intellectual heart of Greyhawk. While its prices are exorbitant, students and faculty enjoy a 90% discount, ensuring that it remains a center for literary discourse, political debate, and philosophical discussion. Outsiders rarely set foot within its walls.
Academic Rigor & Costs
With an enrollment of around 400 students per term, Grey College follows a demanding ten-month schedule, beginning one month after Midsummer and concluding one month before the next Midsummer.
The curriculum spans two to eight years, covering a vast range of disciplines, including:
Alchemy, Engineering, Healing, Geography, Economics, Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Theatre, Literature, and History.
Tuition begins at 50 gp per term, doubling each year, making later years an expensive privilege. However, students receive exceptional instruction, and class sizes shrink as they advance, allowing for individualized mentorship from some of the most knowledgeable scholars in Greyhawk.
