A Note About Species

Recent Changes to the Species of Gothenya...

Gothenya is a world in constant development. One that is slowly finding its own, unique identity beyond the scope of any popular works of gaming fiction.   All the races below reflect versions from the D&D 5e edition of Gothenya, and have been significantly altered henceforth. New articles explaining the changes will come down the pipe in due time. For now, here is a simple breakdown of the "actual" species of Gothenya (as per the world of the upcoming novel and future games)...   Outside of the 5th edition of "the world's most famous roleplaying game," many of the listed species do not, or no longer exist in Gothenya. Those that do are radically changed to reflect the new direction of the gaming world and the world of its associated fiction.   Note: Where a species hasn't undergone a significant change from the later articles, this is noted as "unaltered."

The Species of Gothenya

The Native Species   Humans (unaltered) - The first, surface dwelling sapient species of Gothenya. Not transported by the gods.   Vess'ka (unaltered) - The first, subterranean sapient species of Gothenya. Not transported by the gods.   The Transplanted Species   The Sidhe (Vala'Suun & Isagorn)...   Vala'Suun ("elves") - The Solti, Kelti, Quali and Seresti. The Vala'suun come from a dimension overlapping our own, and were dragged to our realm by the power of the gods. Natively, each of the subspecies enjoy a plethora of sexes (on their hoemworld). However, upon arriving on Gothenya, most immediately adapted to binary sexes. All save for the Solti, who became sterile and androgynous. The only Solti upon Gothenya today are the very same beings who arrived eons past.   Isagorn ("hobgoblins," mostly unaltered) - The Isagorn are cousins to the Vala'Suun, and were similarly dragged across space-time to act as servitors to the gods. They are considered by many to be a more "warlike" species, and do not receive the same respect as their otherworldly cousins. Isagorn consist of the subspecies Nentiak, Ruttiak and Baradien.   Both the Vala'Suun and the Isagorn are closely related to the Vu'un ("demons").   The Created Species   The Grogans ("gnomes") - Created to be both terraformers and gardeners to the gods, the fungal beings known as the grogans are creators in their own right, having birthed the "servitor" species of the Fortreal (unaltered).   The Strouts ("dwarves") - The mechanics and builders of the gods, the strouts were created to build and maintain the holy mountain of Celene, and thus are (or once were) revered by man as caretakers to the ancestral home of the gods. Now, bereft of divine direction and cut off from Celene, they desperately attempt to find their place in the world.   The Mironesra ("changelings," somewhat unaltered) - None alive know of the true origin of this arcanely created species, other than the fact that they were likely "invented" by a mortal. If such insanity can be believed.   The Urtlan ("mutants," "half-orcs," somewhat altered) - Urtlan are the result of sentient humanoids coming into prolonged contact with the mutagenic waters of The Churn.     The Hybrids   Pikel ("Halflings") - mostly unaltered. Pikel are the result of a union between human and fae spirit (formerly of Celene), as many such beings also made the transition to Gothenya along with the Sidhe.   Vistraal ("Half-Kelti") - mostly unaltered. As far as any are aware, only the Kelti have ever mated with humans, thus producing the Vistraal half-breed.   Daemistaal ("Half Vu'un" or "Tieflings") - mostly unaltered. See entry.
