Mahnkii (mŏn-kī)

Basic Information

Anatomy

A highly diverse family of Kynekin demonstratinng traits of both amphibians and retiles. Myndikin often refer to these beings collectively as "Lizardmen," a term the Mahnkii particularly detest.

Ecology and Habitats

Mahnkii are ectothermic beings, that is, they lack a natural ability to significantly regulate their internal body temperature. As a result, they tend to shun regions with highly variable temperatures and gravitate toward regions with a consistent climate and temperature year-round. This is partially why the Mahnkii are often found in caves. They have ample shade from the sun as needed and the temperatures within cave systems are reasonably predictable.

Behaviour

Mahnkii are generally perceived as quiet and reserved. They are contemplative and introspective, oft carefully considering their words before speaking. From this stems the Kynekin mindset that Mahnkii words are filled with wisdom.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Make no mistake. The Mahnkii's reserved and contemplative nature, combined with their general difficulty in forming the sounds of commonly spoken languages has often been interpreted as a lack of intelligence. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Mahnkii share an intelect on par with the other races of Gokrenxia.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Of all the Kynekin, Mahnkii have demonstrated the greatest propensity for art, music, and performance. Through art, they have found ways to express many of the complex concepts, feelings, and emotions they might struggle to otherwise elucidate.

Relationship Ideals

Unlike many of their counterparts, the Mahnkii do not mate for life. Males and females generally pursue passion, fire, and deep but short-lived connections. The "tribe" is responsible for the rearing and protection of the young.
