“The first time I was thrown off Olympus, it was my mother who did it. The second time, it was my father, for defending my mother. This time… Zeus has been getting paranoid—about you mortals, about the Fates, about some prophecy of Apollo’s—and I was at home, arguing with Aphrodite. I yelled that I knew how to chain an Olympian up forever, that I had done it before and would do it again… and that bitch went and told Zeus. He threw me off Olympus. And you know the worst thing? I still love her."

Hephaestus is the god of blacksmiths, forges, and craftsmanship. He is noteworthy among the gods for his physical appearance—not ugly, but perfectly average—medium brown skin, short-cropped brown hair, a mole on his nose, some handsome facial features, some less than flattering—but most importantly, he has prosthetic legs, made of shining bronze and powered by clockwork, steam, and sheer divine determination. He is the patron of player character Kallos.

History

Hephaestus and Aphrodite have a deeply troubled marriage. In the past, she has had affairs with other gods and mortals. In one notable instance, Hephaestus designed a trap for his wife, who was cheating on him with his brother Ares. The two lovers were caught in an invisible mesh and shamed in front of the other Olympians. Hephaestus claims to have forgiven his wife for her infidelity, but he vehemently hates her for betraying him to Zeus, who threw him off Olympus (for the third time), and seeks vengeance on both Zeus and Aphrodite.
