Uth Kingdom

The Uth Kingdom was a nation of humans in the Neverwinter Region located in the area now known as the Mere of Dead Men.

History

One Kingdom Becomes Two

The Uth Kingdom was established in 146 DR by Uth Myrmoran, an exiled lord from the city of Tavaray near modern-day Daggerford. Myrmoran erected a tower on a rocky pinnacle overlooking a coastal plain, naming it Uthtower and establishing it as his seat of power.

Uth's son, Ornoth Myrmoran I, succeeded his father in 168 DR. Ornoth died suddenly in 191 DR, and a conflict arose when Ornoth's twin sons vied for the throne. The kingdom's Council of Lords decreed that the kingdom would be split in two, and the twin princes, Uth Myrmoran II and Ornoth Myrmoran II, would rule each section. Prince Uth II inherited the Uth Kingdom, while Prince Ornoth II became the first ruler of the new nation of Yarlith.

The Council commissioned new regalia for the twin kings, including new magical crowns enchanted by their royal mage Iniarv. The crowns were known as the Twin Crowns of Myrmoran; separately they were named the Twinned Crown of Uthtower and the Twinned Crown of Yarlith. The crowns helped the brothers put aside their differences, and their descendents continued ruling in peace for centuries.

The Creation of the Mere of Dead Men

In 615 DR, while facing the threat of destruction from invading orcs, the Uth Kingdom and Yarlith called on their former royal mage Iniarv for assistance. Iniarv, enraged by the request, revealed himself to be a lich. He called on the Sea of Swords to flood the entire plain, killing the invading orcs and also destroying the kingdom.

The flood waters receded, revealing swampland and the new hordes of wandering undead creatures that would give the area its new name: the Mere of Dead Men.
