Phaethon

The gleaming white walled capital of the Elven Empire, sacred to Zeus King of the Olympians. Its surface rings a crater lake fed by waterfall, and drained through passages to the underground Sea of Sorrows. It is in this lake that the gilded domes of the city's elite lie, housing the castle of the Elven High King and the Temple of Zeus which justified his station. Since the Empire's formation it has remained the largest and most populous polis. It was from Phaethon that all Elven culture was forcibly modeled.   In the present day both the surface and underwater sections of the city are teaming with cannibals. Some engage in grotesque parodies of every day occupations of the world before the Gnosis while others simply do in the open what they had previously kept behind closed doors. The streets are a constant cacophony of parades and debauchery, paused only by the emergence of street cleaning automata.   Most important to those on the outside are the captured gods. The majority of idols stolen by conquest or gods bound into magicite were gathered in Phaethon for use by the empire, or if none could be found simply deposited in the Temple of Zeus as trophies. Thus the Temple is the most highly sought out prize of all among the cannibal cities.
