Zola's Dungeon

Whenever a Zola is born, it gets exiled to Zola's Dungeon. The Dungeon itself is located on an island in Faron Sea. The island is tropical and is a long sloping hill that drops into a cliff at the island's peak. Freshwater pours out of the Dungeon through a grate at the bottom of the cliff.

Purpose / Function

Zola's Dungeon was initially called Gyorg's Grounds and was built to house the sealed Gyorg. After Shinzo's exile, though, the Zola refused to participate in his erasure from history, and so were exiled to the same structure, renaming it Zola's Dungeon.

Design

The Dungeon has multiple switches that raise the water level. The walls are slick and sheer and cannot be climbed.

Entries

There is one entry into Zola's Dungeon, and it is a massive door near the peak of the island. However, Cyclos has caused a landslide that has blocked the entrance. The landslide can be cleared away with powder kegs.

Contents & Furnishings

There are two Murals.   One on the left half of the dungeon is crudely carved. It depicts the Zora fighting the Zola, pushing them into an island with a giant fish beneath it.
  • DC 7 Civilization: There appear to be two people (Gerudo? Sheikah? Hylian?) mixed in with the Zora.
  • DC 13 Civilization: Those people are Sheikah, you can tell by the weapons depicted in their hands.
  • DC 16 Civilization or Nature: The fish is named Gyorg and had terrorized the ocean long ago, sometime before the Child Hero.
One in Nalu's Room, behind a statue of a goddess, is ornately carved, but covered in moss and water flora. It depicts the Hero wielding a rod and leading Zola and Zora against a giant fish, which is foaming at the mouth.
  • DC 4 Civilization: The rod is the same rod as Nalu.
  • DC 10 Civilization: The fish is being beaten back into an ornate structure on the Island they are on.
  • DC 13 Civilization: The Hero has a halo crudely scratched around their head as if they were some kind of deity.
  • DC 16 Civilization or Nature: The fish is named Gyorg and had terrorized the ocean long ago, sometime before the Child Hero.
The Broken Seal has left behind Runes of an unknown Runic Language.
  • DC 4 Arcana: The Runes are made of many ancient Runic Languages, cleverly composed, combined, and overlayed. The meaning of the Runes you can interpret are "Here", which is extending over the entire magical seal, blackened and smoldering. The other is one along the ring of the seal, "Ship".
  • DC 7 Arcana: "Stink"
  • DC 10 Arcana: "Sea"
  • DC 13 Arcana: "Maw". These runes are incredibly potent. The way they are composed are delicate and perfect. If you were to try composing these runes, you would definitely get them slightly wrong, and they would fail to reflect the potency here.
  • DC 16 Arcana: "Hunter". The runes are deep, and would require an immense source of power to keep working.
  • DC 19 Arcana: "Wisdom". The inner circle, which is largely marred by the "Here" rune, is designed to channel power out of something and into the runes along the outer ring.
  • DC 21 Arcana: "Lured". You can replicate these runes, but making the channels for a power source would be beyond you. At most, you can power a single of these runes yourself for a short time.
  • DC 25 Arcana: "Caught". You could mimic these runes with little practice.
There is one puzzle stone:
  • I am the darkness that sleeps beneath the isle, hunger frothing eternal.

Valuables

Weapon Spirit – Nalu Rank 0 Metal Zora Rod, Elemental Ench. Water

Alterations

When the structure filled with Zola, the Zola made some minor alterations. They expanded the area above Gyorg and added Murals.

Architecture

The building is made out of slick, wet stone. The stone itself is incredibly polished and thus, unclimbable. There are murals and running fresh water throughout.

Defenses

The dungeon is entirely underground and only one massive door allows entry. It is built much like a fortress, and would require the entire island to collapse in order to destroy.

History

See Shinzo's Timeline   Zola's Dungeon was built by the Zola and Zora working together (with Shinzo's/Magnus's guidance) to house Nalu, the water spirit, and Gyorg, the demon fish. However, after Shinzo's exile, the Zola were banished to this dungeon for their loyalty to him. The Zola expanded the dungeon until it extended throughout the underground of the island.   In the early days, if a Zola escaped, they were killed. However, later on, Zola tried less to leave the dungeon, and they became rarer. As such, Zola found outside the dungeon today are simply brought back to it.   Zora hatchlings that hatch as Zola are still brought to this dungeon, which is what happened to Cleff's children.

Tourism

The dungeon is not a well known place. Zora adventurers and treasure hunters occasionally sweep through the place to destroy any monsters that have collected there. Sometimes, this means the death of many Zola. The Zola, despite having lost intellect and knowledge since their banishment, have grown wary over the years regarding such intruders; they simply go into hiding and hope that the monster hunters leave rather than engaging, which could trigger a near genocide.
