Mental characteristics

Personal history

Nalu is a water spirit dedicated to protecting the water of Hyrule as according to Nayru. She was unable to handle Gyorg on her own, and the civil war left the Zora unable to deal with the beast. At a loss, she stayed at the shrine of wisdom, hoping for an answer from Nayru. This came in the form of Shinzo, who brought a trained and civilized Zola army to her, asking if she would help. The conditions were, though, that she be bound to a staff in order to seal the beast. She agreed.   Shinzo used her, the Zola, and Zora to seal Gyorg away in Zola's Dungeon. There, she remained for centuries. Occasionally, she listened to the stories of the Zola who were banished there later.   Now, Sumrak has come to her and demanded she leave her seal on Gyorg to help Shinzo. She refused, so her spirit was corrupted and her seal broken. Her memories are lost and her rod damaged.

Employment

Nalu was appointed by Nayru to protect the water of Hyrule.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Nalu sealed Gyorg away with Shinzo's help.

Morality & Philosophy

Nalu is a follower of Nayru above all else. She was friends with Jabu Jabu, the spirit of the River. Jabu Jabu is no longer a known entity of the Zora, though.   Nalu believes Shinzo is something more than man, which is what the Zola seemed to believe.   Nalu has a strict sense of duty.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Nalu wants to see her duty to Nayru fulfilled. She wants to ensure the safety of the waters. However, as a weapon spirit, she is limited to helping heroes save Hyrule rather than directly doing so.

Social

Religious Views

Nayru is her commander of sorts, but she acknowledges the other goddesses as well.

Mannerisms

Nalu only says what needs to be said, and she says it in as few words as she can while maintaining eloquence. She is always calm and straightforward. She states things in a matter of fact way. Even when she is faced with injustice, she speaks more with her actions and statements of direct desires and facts than with emotions or rants.

Speech

1. You see through Nalu's eyes. You hover over Hyrule's rivers, going from Lake Hylia upstream toward Lanayru. Dread fogs your mind as you examine the scarlet waters. No matter how far upstream, Hylian soldiers continue to litter the banks, unmoving, broken. In the distance, the sound of battle rings on the wind.   You hurry along, further upstream, but suddenly, you pause when your eyes catch a series of perfectly round, white and blue eggs in the reddened water. You look for the parents of the eggs, but you find nothing except more dead soldiers along the river. Cautiously, you reach to scoop them out of the tainted water, but just as you are about to grab them, they burst open. What should have been graceful Zora carefully emerging from the shell were horrific Zola.   In an instant, you predict the Zora losing the rivers. You predict Lanayru overtaken by the Zola who undoubtedly would reject and attack any Zora they find, familial or not. You predict added death and chaos to an already gruesome Hyrulean war as the Zola dominate the rivers, aggressively attacking all who approach.   Horrified, you turn around, and head downstream again, back to Lake Hylia. A deity of the Zora live there, and you seek advice. When you arrive, you see that what was once a Zora Deity - a massive and powerful fish, a guardian of the lake - twist and convulse on the water's surface until it becomes the familiar form of Gyorg.   As the memory fades, you catch yourself saying, "How? How did this happen?". Then, you are back in reality, standing where you were, not as Nalu, but yourself.   2. You see through Nalu's eyes. You hover above a lake atop a mountain, and look over the ocean. Gyorg swims along the surface, churning foamy water with its long fins. You hear footsteps approach behind you. A Sheikah steps into the shallows of the lake and bows, saying "Nalu, great water spirit, I understand you have struggled to defeat Gyorg, and the zola and zora too have lost many to him, but I am here to solve this problem."   You say, "Do you mean to slay him?"   He responds, "No, the Zora refused to let me do so. Instead, I have convinced the Zora and Zola to set differences aside and to work together against the beast. We hope to seal it away, but a normal seal will not be enough; Gyorg would surely break out of it in short time. So, I have a proposal. I have researched the seal the Master Sword makes and have concluded that weapon spirits create seals that do not waver. I would like to do the same to Gyorg." He holds out Nalu's rod, which is in perfect condition, masterfully made. "Would you be the spirit willing to seal the beast away?"   You ask, "What is your name?"   He responds, "My name is Shinzo."   You aren't sure what it is, but something about the way Shinzo stands, his cadence, his wild eyes, tells you he is hiding something. You say, "I will gladly assist in regaining order to the waters and fulfill my duties to Nayru. But I do not compare to the Master Sword, nor does that rod you hold. Are you certain this will work?"   The memory begins fading. The last thing you see is glimpses of an arcane ritual performed to bind Nalu to the weapon and a strange tear shaped stone being placed within the rod.   3. You see through Nalu's eyes. The rod is held by Shinzo's hands. You wait patiently above a tall cliff, watching a battle in a foaming, reddened ocean. Zola and Zora fight against Gyorg, slowly pushing him closer and closer to the island.   Their formation is sloppy. The leaders of their battle are exposed. The battle is unnecessarily gruesome.   You say, "Shinzo, you should do something. Surely you can see that their tactics are not working very well."   Without looking at you, he says, "I cannot do anything. Forgive me, Nalu, I hid my true intentions from you. Hyrule sent me to ensure the Zora would agree to a peace treaty and become allies of the country. They had continued to refuse, so I am culling numbers and leaders until they have no choice."   You feel a flood of anger. You reject Shinzo as a wielder of the rod, which should cause him to be in great pain by holding the rod. But he doesn't flinch.   "Listen, I offered to kill Gyorg myself in exchange for peace, but he's a deity to them, so they refused to let me. Please, Nalu, I'm doing my best despite my orders. Do not blame me, blame the ones who sent me."   Your anger abates, but as you watch the once pure blue sea turn scarlet like the rivers of Hyrule, your rage comes back twice as violent. But you don't dare speak. Shinzo is in control here, and you, stuck to this rod, cannot do anything more to fight him.   The memory becomes hazy. The last you see is Gyorg being funneled into a cave at the bottom of the cliff. You and Shinzo dive head first into the foaming waters after it.   4. You see through Nalu's eyes. The room you are in is the same as the one you found Nalu in, but much less decayed. Your rod is sitting on an altar, and you can feel your magic slowing draining into a faintly glowing blue seal on the floor.   To your great surprise, the door to the chamber opens. A group of 10 Zola cautiously enter the room. Some dive into the water and scour the pool's floor, others stand at the door and keep watch, and one walks up to the altar, but it ignores both the magic seal and the rod. Instead, it stares at the Mural behind the altar, particularly the heroic figure depicted. It reaches out with its webbed claw, and crudely scrapes a halo around the figure's head.   You speak, startling the Zola, "Why are you here?"   "Who? Where?"   You show yourself to the Zola, and it bows to you, saying, "Forgive me, water goddess. Here is prison."   You are surprised, as zola are not usually so articulate, "Prison? You are imprisoned here? Why?"   The zola says, "God of judgement created powerful beasts, but angered gods. Gods of light banished him. Hyrule said 'FORGET!' 'OBEY!' 'SUBMIT!'." He hisses,"We refused! We lost war. Exiled here. Did not know you live here. We ask, can we stay? No fight?"   The memory begins to cloud. You say "Yes, we have no need to fight", and then the memory is gone.   5. You see through Nalu's eyes. You are alone in the room where your rod sits on an altar. You have no idea what time it is. You've been sleeping for who knows how long, but someone has just entered the chamber.   You see someone, not a zola or zora, walk in wearing a mask of stone and dark clothes enter the room. They approach the altar with purpose.   You say, "Who are you and how did you get here?"   They reply "I am a messenger. The message I bring you is this: Your creator wants you back to save Hyrule. Let me bring you to him."   "I don't know exactly who you refer to, although I could certainly guess. Regardless, though, I don't care if Din herself came here to ask me to leave, as long as I am instructed by Nayru to protect the waters I will not willingly let Gyorg go free!"   They sigh, "Then I must take you."   They grab the rod and pull it from the altar. You reject them as a wielder, which should cause them pain, but instead you feel agony. Darkness envelopes you. Your consciousness slips in and out of reality, emptiness, and nightmares.   The memory ends abruptly, and you are suddenly back in reality.
