Okay, here we go. There is magic, this is a pretty much universally acknowledged fact. There are different kinds of magic, with a major distinction drawn between Arcane and Wild magic, which draw on different sources of power. There are more expansive realms of spirits, fae, and gods, which exist beyong the mortal realm but are not easily accessed, or mostly accessible at all. There are also, of course, spirits, fae, demons, and gods. The active presence of different gods varies depending on the specific entity and context, but overall it is very limited. The existence of gods in general is solidly obvious enough to be a universally accepted truth, but there is also enough wiggle room for there to be debate on which gods are real and what they do and what they can do amongst those who worship or decry them.
It's kind of a which came first, the chicken or the egg type of situation. The physical world came into existince through physical means, and went through extremely long ages of material evolution to get to the point where we are now. Bringing in the spiritual and divine realms is where things get a little murkier, though in a way, those parts of the world kind of also had their own sort of godly big bang. Of course, in universe everyone believes the gods created the world autonomously, though opinion on which god(s) and why and how varies of course, but I just want you to know that actually evolution is real and once upon a time, everything was microbes. Including the gods.
The geography of Gilden is pretty standard, real-world-mirroring, realistic geography. The particular region that I mainly focus on has a lot of grassy highlands, hills and valleys, a huge coastline, rolling, sprawling plains, and some pretty impressive dense mountain ranges. It's mostly a northern-to-temperate climate, but we'll be getting to some areas with a more mediterannean and tropical climate, too. A little sprinkling of desert, for fun.
Since the world exists for a specific narrative, we'll start smaller, in one specific region that makes up a small portion of the large continent that is Gilden, called the Warlands. Though from the very beginning there is an awareness and acknowledgement of the rest of the greater world around it, as different members of the main cast from from different places across Gilden. Then, the main characters will travel outside of the Warlands, and they and the audience will get to explore other parts of the world, and we'll see for ourselves some of the places we've only previously been exposed to secondhand.
To all our Our Patrons for their unwavering love and support.
