Atti Ammam Butra Character in Ghosts of Saltmarsh | World Anvil

Atti Ammam Butra

Atti Butra is the temporary leader of the Thornhill bandit camp. Her policy of discouraging questions, and prioritizing forced tolls from travelers has proven polarizing. Though no one will openly acknowledge it, there are several betting pools surrounding her remaining time as bandit captain. If Atti is aware of it, she has done little to address or discourage such actions.

Upbringing

The third child of an established trading family, Atti Ammam spent her youth learning how to manage inventory and acquire and barter for valuable goods. The Silverdeep business thrived, but Atti was never in a position to inherit the store. In her mid-20's she started dating Vincent Trinnon, a newly initiated daan. Through this relationship she was able to see firsthand the doors that could be opened with a combination of economic lubrication and intimidation.   When her older brother was arrested for tax evasion and implicated her in the scandal, her connection with Trinnon proved more of a liability than protection. Fleeing the town she took on the name Atti Butra. Cut off from her business network, Atti used her skills in various cities to illegally obtain shelter and necessary supplies. Over time bounty on her head began to draw unwanted attention and she spent more and more time hiding in the Hool Marshes before stumbling upon the Thornhill camp.

Rise to Leadership

During her five years in the Thornhill camp, Atti used her skills to reorganize and stabilize the settlement's finances, preferring to avoid attention and support others in more visible and vulnerable positions. When Mannu Eronen assumed control of the camp, she became one of his trusted advisors. Eronen's violent tactics strengthened the camp's reputation, bolstered their coffers, and reduced the frequency of guard raids. Atti used the opportunity to strengthen area fortifications and connections with the Parivaar Collection. After Eronen's arrest, Atti was considered the natural steward until his return.

Current Politics

The bold actions of the guard and dwindling trade caravans have prompted Atti to shift from Eronen's raiding and pillaging towards extracting bribes and other valuables from wayward travelers. This aversion to violence has erroneously led some members of the camp to believe that she is unfit for leadership. Rumors surrounding Eronen's arrest have lead many members to suspect someone inside the camp leaked his planned excursions to the Silverdeep guard.   Small scuffles have erupted throughout the camp. Atti is concerned the different factions will draw unwanted attention to the camp and is maintaining a front of neutrality while acting swiftly behind the scenes. Some of the more bold members have started taking advantage of the situation, vying for more personal power and prestige.
