Halflings
Halflings are called such because they are usually half as tall as humans, under 3 feet (well under 1 meter), but with similar proportions, which sets them apart from short humans and human children. They also have thick hair growing on their feet, and many prefer to walk barefooted. Halflings are usually quick on their feet and deft of fingers.
Chronanese halflings believe that they are all children of The Mother, their creator goddess, who by the Steaming Age has become more widely worshipped as Tritiana Mater. Their faith and culture is based on freedom, merriment and humility, and halflings often lead simple lives as farmers, brewers and herders. However, at some point of an individual halfling's life, they are hit with the instict of wanderlust, and leave their families and homes to see the world. Some return quickly, while some leave permanently, having found a better life elsewhere. It is said a halfling under wanderlust is blessed with exceptional luck and bravery.
Although halflings prefer the comforts of their own communities, they are welcoming and hospitable to outsiders, and social and curious in their interactions. Disagreeable individuals are kindly but firmly cast to the outskirts of the community, and looked down upon with pity as if they are suffering from an ailment. Halflings in general are considered quite emotional and easily moved by both wonders and horrors.
As the Steaming Age rolled on and brought the comforts of technology to all people, halfling communities mostly kept to their old ways of living off the land. However, they welcomed steam machines to their fields and sawmills that would do the hard work and heavy lifting for them, so they could better focus on enjoying their leasurely lives.
