STATIC 7: Individual Enterprises & Uttered Oaths

General Summary

Wherein the Blinkertons attend to some personal matters and continue the pursuit of the gold earring'd individual

Personal Business

While The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency awaited a summons from Messelum in regards to the identity of the individual with the gold earring, they completed some errands of a more personal nature. They were as follows:
  • Corinna Himmelswander, no stranger to things both secret and personal, visited "Pickle," her contact in The Concern to sell some of the artifacts she "gathered" in her own Displacement. This included the Blastcordian, an instrument belonging to Slimedrift, Sharkbait's Drum Major. Wonder how Sharkbait feels about this? No matter! She got 850 gold for her haul and used some of that to purchase a secure deposit box in The Enterprise Hotel. What she deposited there is her own business.
  • Hypatia, leaning fully into her artificer interests, tinkered with Brassjaw's Bounty and found that she might be close to unlocking more of its abilities. She also brewed some excellent potions and reached out to say hello to her mother, Kosi. Hypatia filled her mother in on the various details of her experience in The Displacement and her mother asked to meet Sharkbait.
  • Speaking of Sharkbait, he decided that the best way to understand the city in which he currently finds himself is to do a bit of bardin'. He quickly earned an appreciative following at Grumble's Munch & Meow, as the patrons seemed to enjoy his sick grooves. A fellow bard, Leffem Greensmock, was less enthused, as apparently this was his usual spot. Sharkbait offered to "duel" him in a lute playing contest and just smoked poor Leffem. This seemed to earn the bard's enmity. How might this rivalry manifest in the future?
  • Nero, meanwhile, decided that he needed a little help to be his punchin' best. Therefore, he sought out a place--Ineffable Ink--that he heard might engage in tattoos of a more magical nature. After a brief interview process, Ineffable, the titular tattooist, agreed to work with Nero Rubicant on a preliminary basis--she charged him 50 gold to tattoo a strange eye on his wrist. Allegedly, this eye will lead him to the next step in his tattoo process. Or maybe it won't. No refunds! Perhaps encouraged by this development, Nero decided to do some fighting. He entered a tournament in Sensubic's School of Fisticuffs and won two out of three of his fights. Everyone was pretty surprised! Maybe this spells a new beginning for our beleaguered monk?
Other activities were less personal in nature, such as a visit to Berrig Sprawlrock and his Berrig's Necessities, in which Corinna--perhaps feeling a bit guilty at all her Wanevale thefts, bought Sharkbait a "Cleaning Cube." Sharkbait was delighted.   Perhaps Sharkbait wanted that Cleaning Cube to help with the cleaning he is currently expected to do of No Future, which is now in the process of "officially" becoming the headquarters of the Blinkertons. Those cleaning duties were complicated by the arrival, through Displacement, of some hostile Orogs. These creatures put up a hell of a fight before succumbing to the might of the Blinkies. Their appearance, as happens quite often as of late, generated more questions about the Displacement than answers. Mainly, is the Displacement about people? About places? Both? Hm!   There was little time to ponder that further, as Messelum had news for them.

To Rhama's Lot

Messelum reported that an individual matching the description they provided of "the earring'd one" has been seen in a lumberjack camp called Rhama's Lot, which is about a day's walk from New Carydam.   This being the best clue they've got for the moment, the Blinkertons departed for the camp. Not before, however, formally inducting Sharkbait into the Blinkertons. Apparently, there's a creed that needs to be recited? This chronicler doesn't remember that happened for the other Blinkies, but no matter. Sharkbait said these words: I, Sharkbait, swear to investigate with diligence, all instances of The Displacement, and will, to the best of my ability, seek to eradicate it. He then added "dog," just so they knew he was serious.   Formalities concluded, it was time to venture forth. The Blinkertons didn't get far before stumbling upon some worshippers of Wogresor and a fight ensued. These cultists were no match for the detectives and were dispatched without incident, leaving the Blinkies both a bit richer (Wogresor values weath, of course) and about to head further down the road.

And That's Where We Left It

We'll see what else the Blinkertons encounter on the way to Rhama's Lot during our next session

Varied & Sundry Details

  • Corrina's former lodgings were ransacked. A clever use of the Alarm spell revealed this to her. She saw an individual with a gleaming gold tooth departing.
  • Corinna also found out, from "Pickle," that her brother is alive. His whereabouts are unknown to Pickle, but he was last seen breathing.
  • The Blinkies came upon a very excited shopkeep who gave them cigars to celebrate the birth of twins. Nice!
  • Hypatia came into close contact, once again, with the perpetually dying individual that seems drawn to her. This time he managed to utter "Hypatia...the Temple..." before expiring.

Character(s) interacted with
