STATIC 42: A Watery Wedding

General Summary

To Glass Gardens

The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency arrived at Abahzarib's teashop in Tronksburg to pick up some tea Auntie Effie Snaildangler as a gift as they figured out what, exactly, her problem was. They selected a nice sampler pack of tea and enjoyed a spirited discussion with Abah.   As they made their way to Glass Gardens, they encountered the strange happenings of this city riddled with Displacement energy. That meant an encounter with a cult of Elcorax inside The Weekly Dose--a tavern frequented by the Acid Tongues, a "Science-Gangs" of The Reactor. There, they discovered a massacre and remaining cultists engaging in some dark ritual. Combat ensured and our heroes avenged these fallen New Carydamians, deciding to leave before the Connies showed up and started asking questions.   The wild Displaced energies of the city wasn't done with our gumshoes yet, however. A group of evil-eye worshippers was Displaced and immediately attacked our heroes. One of those evil-eyes even got in Corinna Himmelswander's head a bit. But these evil-eye folks might not have realized that the Blinkertons had no time for this tomfoolery and were ultimately dispatched.   Fortunately, after receiving her gift of tea, Auntie Effie was more hospitable than the chaotic city. Feeling a bond with Corinna, she explained the cause of her distraction--her sister, Weepy Wiltwater, is marrying the wrong person. An odious patriarch of a rival family--Grandpa Greasewave--has convinced the rest of Effie's kingroup that an arranged marriage between himself and Weepy would benefit both families. Auntie Effie sees this for what it is--a naked power-grab among hagfolk factions and against the wishes of Weepy herself. Thus, she asked our adventurers to stop this ceremony. They agreed.

Wrecking a Watery Wedding

To do so, they'll need an invite. Luckily, Auntie Effie knows just who to ask--their previous Shazzah the Beloved. After a brief ritual to engage Shazzah, they discovered that their friend was delighted to see them again and to help with this plan, as he "never liked Grandpa anyway. Too grouchy."   Thus, our heroes found themselves disrupting the nuptials of a reluctant bride and ambitious groom. Despite attempts to dissolve this proposed partnership peacefully, violence soon broke out--perhaps due to Tridge's newfound affection for physical altercation. But the Blinkertons are the Blinkertons, so Grandpa Greasewave and his watery minions were sent packing.   Back in Glass Gardens, the sisters reunited, and Shazzah threw an impromptu "no wedding" celebration that the Blinkertons attended. Before retiring for the evening, Auntie Effie promised the Blinkertons that they would talk in the morning and they've "got much to discuss, old dearios!"

And That's Where We Left It

We'll see what Auntie Effie and the Blinkertons have to chat about during our next session.

Varied & Sundry Details

  • While dealing with the death priests of Elcorax, Tridge obtained a Maul of Elcorax. This sentient weapon seems to be doing something to her psyche.
  • The Glass Garden is significantly bigger on the inside than the outside structure would suggest. It also teems with magic.
  • Nero was in fine form during combat with the death priests and with Grandpa Greasewave's minions. It was remarkable.
  • Constables, or "Connies" are the security forces of New Carydam. Rare Zoramar prides himself on the integrity of his city's security force, but their reputation as somewhat less than effectual is often earned.
