The "Science-Gangs" of The Reactor

Under Noigs leadership, the various scientific fields of study at The Axon School have given rise to factions that prioritize a series of approaches or philosophical underpinnings over collegiality. This can most dramatically be seen in the student "gangs" that have laid claim to coffee shops, taverns, and pubs in The Reactor. These groups debate scientific merit, sometimes organize charitable undertakings, and frequently fight with each other.

The successful student at Axon must now navigate the political realities of these organizations alongside their rigorous programs of study.

Some Notable Science-Gangs

Chilly Crystals: Led by Gwemrut, students allied with this gang study the effects cold has on, well, everything. With the recent development of the Displacement, they've developed what they believe to be a sound solution: freeze the smartest members of society and wait it out. They claim Umphi's Elixirs at their base of operations.   Phantoms of Change: Students in the Phantoms know that the best way to achieve anything is to do so without leaving a trace. This organization became prominent under the guidance of Barram Firstkind, who deployed political intrigue, along with a healthy dose of chemistry, to secure the Phantoms' place in Reactor hierarchy. They call Gold Street Tavern home.   Continuum: Everyone knows that mathematics is the true universal language, but only Continuum is ready to back up that belief with fists. An intricate system of codes inspired by mathematical proofs allows members to communicate with each other throughout New Carydam. Steeple runs this group, managing affairs from her corner booth in Mash & Glow.   Metal Heads: The practical nature of metallurgy proves it to be the one true science. Metal Heads can be found at Kutig's Korner, with Shimur Bessik presiding over activities.   Thumbprint: Much is unknown as to how our makeup--the literal cells and viscera and everything--determines who we are and how we function. Students of Thumbprint explore that area, along with exploring other gangs with their fists. Lager leads this outfit from Baron's Roast.   Acid Tongues: An easy solution to every conflict is to pour acid on everything. This is proclaimed by Acid Tongues from their base in the Weekly Dose. Eni's voice is the loudest there.

Void Lords: A relatively new arrival to the Reactor scene, these Lords seek to recreate circumstances of Displacement. This often leads to grizzly member deaths (e.g. members teleporting into the middle of a mountain). Duro Daypunch tells his crew that there can be no progress without sacrifice during their meetings at Sixleaf's.   The Silver Teeth: The gift of skeinshale is something that demands focused study. The Silver Teeth have taken the next step of ingesting the metal, hence their name. Zandot's teeth are the most silver and he shows them off from their base in the Proper Pint.   Pollinators: Plants are superior to us and they must be respected. Pollinators have begun experiments to fuse their bodies with plants. Results have been mixed but Kithelle Proudgrove encourages them to not lose heart. They organize their efforts from Willowspring Nectars.   Alems: Eggnar, leader of this alchemist outfit, is recognized as a voice of reason in the turbulent streets of The Reactor. He mitigates disputes from the Alems' stronghold in The Alembic, including a recent counter between his gang and a little known entity called Snakeoil.   The Prime Times: Taking their name from their hang-out, The Prime Times respect two things--philosophical debate and being absolutely jacked. Like, yoked for real. It is commonly acknowledged that Kanakan Wisefist Ganu-Mathala is the most ripped. A long-simmering feud with any gang associated with mathematics has recently boiled over again.   Rocksteadys: This geology gang spends most of its time excavating rocks and minerals at their various makeshift quarries. They're known to make weapons out of whatever they dig up, and are always the first to throw stones during confrontations with other gangs. Their sigil is a shard of skeinshale crossed by a sharp rock chisel. They are led by Igneous Kog who, despite their name, loves all rocks equally.
