A.S.S.: Voyage of the Trash Boat

General Summary

Wherein the Arbos escort a boat on its final journey

Another Job For A.S.S.

The dangers threatening the natural world are ever-present. Luckily, the Arboreal Security Service is there to face those dangers head on.   A new threat was brought to their attention by Messelum who met our eco-justice protectors in A.S.S. HQ in New Carydam.   Messelum hired A.S.S. to investigate the disappearance of "Refuse Ships." New Carydam is growing, and with that growth comes trash. Freeholder Rare Zoramar struck a bargain with a clan of fire genasi living in a grotto up The Dog Coast to incinerate the trash of New Carydam. This arrangement has worked well, until recently. The genasi have not been receiving the "Trash Boats" and are becoming increasingly irritated by this.   This is a different kind of ecosystem, but still one in need of protection. So, A.S.S (along with new member Col. Pridbor Fleurine IV) agreed to take on this job. Messelum told them to seek out one Captain Coppermuck and the good ship Penitent to escort this boat to its final destination, with two goals--one, making sure the Penitent reaches the genasi, and two, figuring out who or what is responsible for disappearing the previous boats.

Last Journey of the Penitent

Capt. Coppermuck called herself a "scumrunner," which is apparently the name that the captains of these doomed Trash Boats call themselves. By extension, the members of A.S.S. are now, also, scumrunners and must complete the ritual rite of initiation called the Scum Dive, wherein the potentual scumrunner dives into the accumulated trash of the vessel to discover what secrets it holds. Each of our brave heroes did this in turn and were rewarded with fascinating magic items. Sir Courtois, it must be said, ended up a little worse for wear as he also found a temporary debuff to his combat prowess. Disappointing, but at least he's a true scumrunner now.   The voyage was not without further complication, as a hungry manticore descended on the Penitent and attacked. This was, of course, defeated.   Another visitor came aboard in the form of a formidable hag named Meemaw Inkalia Toadjoints, or Ma Inky for short. She demanded tribute for passage through her territory. This was provided to her through beautiful trash, a manicore's severed head, and Lenny's left pinky toe. This greatly appeased Ma Inky and she permitted the crew to pass without incident.   Dire bloatflies then attacked our fearless sailors, draining them of their essence and just kinda being annoying. This was a prelude to a larger battle with the would-be hijackers of the Trash Boat. These are, presumedly, also responsible for taking the other Trash Boats.   Antremos Seahoof, the leader of these pirates, engaged A.S.S. in lethal combat. It proved to be a mortal decision for him, as he met his end at the point of Sir Courtois sword.   A series of letters from Ignoz the Flowered was discovered on Seahoof's body, outlining the various payments offered by this "wizard" to the pirate crew. So, that must be who is responsible for these Trash Boat disappearances. Interesting!   The Penitent made its way to the genasi grotto and to its burning end. And our eco-fighters made their way back to New Carydam and to Messelum for payment, and to discuss what might be done about this Ignoz the Flowered individual,

And That's Where We Left It

We'll discover what mysteries and delights are in store for our eco-warriors as the annals of A.S.S. continue.
