Srali

Inikóic: Tvápha /thvauːphhaː/
Ífúric: Diralhák /tɪːralhauːkh/
The Srali1 are native to southeastern Karatvánamb Forest in southeastern Túlmikkía, between the Útimte River to the west and the coast of Túróon Sea to the east. They are unrelated to the other groups that inhabit the forest, namely the Vevúni and Tederans, and share borders with the latter, most notably the Ptivamanaktem Alliance to the northwest, the Fúmrá Alliance to the west and the Narákans to the south.
Srali's relationship with their neighbours has historically been mixed, ranging from trading (particularly with the Fúmrá Alliance) to outright hostilities in form of narákan raiders, while other tribes generally avoid direct contact with the Srali. Tederans sometimes refer to them as the little ones, as the srali are among the shortest people in Gætíus' World.

Society

Much like the tederans, the srali are divided into a number of tribes that share a similar culture, language and religious practices. Unlike the former however, their lifestyle is primarily based on hunting, gathering and fishing rather than agriculture, although horticulture is practiced to some extent, particularly among the tribes close to the Fúmrá Alliance to provide shea- and tamarind fruits and medicinal plants to sell in exchange for cloth and iron.
Their societies are fairly egalitarian, with minimal division of labour between men and women among the eastern tribes in particular, while women are generally responsible for most of the hunting and foraging to the west, where the men spend most of their time in and around their home village taking care of the children, tending the gardens, crafting new tools and maintaining buildings.

Culture

Apparel

Clothing made from hides and furs of various animals found in the woods is the norm, although cloth is used as well among the western tribes. Both are invariably painted with red ochre, which is also used as body- and face paint using similar patterns as those adorning tools, buildings and canoes.

Art

Music
While their instruments are relatively simple, srali music -particularly singing- is the most complex in all of Gætíus' World and is an important part of daily life in their society.

Cuisine

Srali diet consists mainly of wild game, fish and whatever fruits, vegetables, nuts and tubers can be found in the forest, along with wild honey. In many coastal tribes, a kind of pudding made of tree sap, dried yolk and spices is eaten during festivals, while inland tribes often serve roasted banana blossoms instead.

Religion

Although the exact details vary, all srali generally share the same religious practices, focused on the worship of a creator deity on one hand, and a variety of nature spirits on the other. Death is believed to disrupt the harmony between the spirit world and that of mortals, which can only be mended by wrapping the dead in tree bark and leaving it somewhere far from the village, followed by a series of songs and dances.
