Danteks

The danteks1 are natives of the Fom Islands off the coast of northern Túlmikkía, which form part of the empire of Ænadó. Their warriors are highly sought after as mercenaries armed with slings, as are their craftsmen, and dantek musicians are often hired by wealthy Ænateans to entertain their guests.

Culture

Apparel

Danteks generally wear very little if any clothing at all, though warriors serving in the ænatean army usually wear some form of loincloth to better fit in with mainlanders. This is mostly due to the fact that body-paint is considered clothing by the danteks, which mostly consists of lines along the arms and legs, with different patterns for each side of the body.
Jewelry mostly consists of feathers and necklaces made of shells or imported gold- and glass beads. Long hair is favoured, and both warriors and hunters often gather their hair in nets.

Cuisine

Traditional dantek cuisine consists mostly of light blue or gray maize and various tubers, fruits and vegetables, snails, rabbits, peccaries, fish and corn beer. Guinea pigs, peanuts and wine are more recent additions to their diet, introduced by the ænateans, though the latter has to be imported as the Fom Islands are unsuitable for growing grapes.

Warfare

Dantek warriors are known for their skill and deadly accuracy with slings, which they use both on land and sea along with bows and poisoned arrows, and wooden clubs. They rarely wear armour of any kind, preferring to keep their distance or, if that fails, rely on swift moves and dodging rather than brute force.
Traditionally, each group of warriors chooses one of their war captives to be sacrificed in honour of the gods and consume some of his flesh afterwards, a custom which ænateans allow as long as it's practiced outside their camps and settlements.
