Jaggedking Yssac Oakhand

Jaggedking Yssac Oakhand

Yssac Oakhand's life was a paradox of talent and reluctance, a man of immense capability thrust into a role he neither desired nor relished. Born in 45 BHM to the fearsome Jaggedking Gilberd, Yssac grew up in the shadow of an empire built on magic, blood, and conquest. While his father honed armies and forged alliances, Yssac sought solace in creation rather than destruction. A brilliant tinkerer with an affinity for ancient artifacts, he spent his youth in workshops, his grease-stained hands and furrowed brow evidence of countless hours unraveling the mysteries of the past.   Yet the weight of his lineage was inescapable. As his father’s heir, Yssac was drawn into the machinery of war. He became a skilled tactician and a powerful spellcaster, his abilities undeniable even as his heart yearned for a simpler life. When the Fracturing War loomed, Yssac played an instrumental role in the conflict’s ignition. Collaborating with the shadowy Institute of the Clandestine Eye, he orchestrated the assassination of Plainsqueen Sadie Skytracer, a single act that shattered the tenuous balance of power in Galfin.   Yssac led the Vul’Adnian Magistrate’s armies with ruthless efficiency. Under his command, the Council of Lanterns—a cadre of war generals loyal to the Oakhand family—achieved stunning victories, including the brief occupation of Skygarde, the capital of Galfin. Despite his military successes, Yssac lacked his father’s fanatical devotion to the Magistrate’s ideals. He followed orders with precision, completing tasks with cold pragmatism, but he harbored no illusions about the cost of his actions. His campaigns left entire provinces scarred, including Davenport in the Firefang Jags, whose Yssac made his last stand against the surging Mercadians. When the battle was lost, Yssac surrendered himself so that his men would not die. His last stand was defending the Mountain Gates of Dodleven, the entry point into the vast Jags.   When Gilberd fell and the Vul’Adnian Magistrate crumbled, Yssac was released from captivity to inherit a kingdom reduced to ruins. At 49, he reluctantly accepted the title of Jaggedking, ruling only the diminished province of the Spyre under the watchful eye of Highqueen Ella. Unlike his father, who clung to power with unyielding defiance, Yssac sought to mitigate the suffering of his people. The Spyre, ravaged by plague and famine, was a realm on the brink of collapse, and Yssac faced the monumental task of rebuilding what his family’s ambitions had destroyed.   As ruler, Yssac struggled with the crown’s weight. His broad shoulders, draped in the traditional garb of Fogholt, seemed ill-suited for a man who longed to return to his workshop. His deep-set eyes betrayed a spirit burdened by guilt and grief, haunted by the lives lost in his name. Despite his efforts to reform the fractured remnants of the Magistrate, Yssac’s legacy remained stained by his role in the Fracturing War. Historians view him as a figure of tragic complexity: a brilliant tactician and a reluctant ruler whose actions perpetuated a destruction unseen for centuries.   Yssac’s greatest hope lay in his son, Deacon. Determined to shield the boy from the burdens that had consumed his own life, Yssac worked tirelessly to secure a fragile peace. Yet, even in his final days, standing at the threshold of his workshop, Yssac could not shake the feeling that his life had been a series of compromises, his true potential buried beneath the crown he had never wanted. To the people of the Spyre, he was both a savior and a reminder of their suffering—a ruler who fought to heal the wounds his family had inflicted, even as the echoes of war lingered in the mountains he called home.       Yssac has spent his life researching devices crafted by Dhara, in particular a lost device that was wielded by his ancestor Adonis Oakhand. Inside the throne room is the Indra Crystal, a historical artifact the Yssac believes could be a powerful tool for rebuilding his nation.
