Everfall Fields

Everfall Fields lies beneath an endless curtain of rain, where dark clouds choke the sky so completely that the sun appears only as a pale blur through the storm. The fields stretch across the flooded lowlands of Taiseanam, their earth drowned in deep mud and stagnant water. Rows of tobacco plants rise from the mire in crooked lines, their broad leaves slick with rainwater and rot. Thin scarecrows sway in the wind like hanging corpses, their straw bodies soaked black by years of storms.
The farmers of Everfall move through the rain in heavy cloaks and reed-woven hats, their boots sinking ankle-deep into the soaked earth with every step. Many have taken up the use of wide soled snowshoes refitted to work better along the damp mud. Homes stand atop stone foundations or warped wooden stilts to keep the floodwater from swallowing them whole. Drainage trenches cut through the fields in every direction, though many overflow during the harsher seasons, turning entire farms into shallow lakes. Travellers rarely linger here. The roads are little more than muddy scars through the wetlands, and the constant sound of rainfall drowns conversation into a low murmur carried by the wind.
