Caldur Graybore was always more restless than his older brother Torand, never content with the honest but gruelling work of the family quarry in the Firefang Jags. His spirit leaned more toward the chaotic, and when he was young, he joined a bandit guild along the coast, running smuggling jobs and raids. His quick wit and sharp axe made him a favourite among his gang, but a miscalculated skirmish left him severely wounded and blind in one eye. After that, he decided to abandon his life of crime, choosing to “go straight” as he called it, though his past always loomed over him like a shadow.
With his signature eyepatch and a hard-earned toughness about him, Caldur took on simpler work at the tobacco fields near Black Barrow, where the slow, steady labor gave him peace. Eventually, he found his way to a quarry run by the Plateborn Clan, where he met Arlene Plateborn. They shared a fierce independence, and despite their difficult pasts, they built a life together. After the birth of their son Arlo, they lived happy for a long time but Caldur vanished without a trace, stumbling into the enchanted Glas'Talag forest while on a drunken stupor. Trapped within its magical boundaries, Caldur was presumed dead for many years. He eventually sent cryptic messages to Arlo, but by the time his son could piece together his location, Caldur had lived for years as a wanderer in the strange, shifting realm.
Oli and Arlo bonded over losing a parent before their teenage years.
