Omynhil (Omen-Hill)

Omynhil is a beautiful cliff side city along the east coast of Dremith. It is well known for its large almost black castle, large trade district and being home base for the Wylders Rift and the Guilded Lotus. The bustling city had once been called the capitol of Dremith and had housed the King and Queen but has since lost that status as the Monarchy has since moved to Redhall and claimed it the new capitol. The monarchy moving has not stopped Omynhil from thriving though. Many who come to Omynhil come to see the Guild halls, the Festival of Inspired Beauty, or to take a guided tour of the old castle. Like other Druin touched cities Omynhil has a few strange machines that the druins had built and imbued with forgotten magic before they were exiled. Many inventors have come from all corner of the world to see the watermills of Omynhil at work.

Government

Omynhil is under the rule of the King as with the rest of Dremith. Unlike the rest of Dremith though Omynhil does not have Overseer. Instead the leaders of the local guilds have stepped up to lead and speak for the city under the rule of the King. The guilds host monthly meetings and decide where the cities funds should be spent and makes the final decision for large scale problems. When a leader is summoned to the kings court the Guilds will decide amongst themselves who will speak for the city depending on who has the best standing or which leader has the most knowledge about something that must be brought to the attention of the king.

Defences

In the name of defense, Omynhil has erected 3 layers of walls around the city. The first wall, tall and thin made of Naror wood, encircles the center of the city around the higher ranking citizens and the old castle. A second wall made of stone, from the near by mountains, encircles the Guilded District keeping the merchants and working class safe. The third and final wall, also made of mountain stone but not as tall, encircles the largest part of the city where most of its residents live. There are small watch towers placed periodically along the outer wall for the watch to use, as well as mounted crossbows and places for rocks or oil to be dumped over the sides of the walls. Along the edges of the cliffs stones have been rigged to fall on the winding path below destroying parts of it to effectively slow anyone using the path to reach the city. In the event of a breach in one of the walls, a space can be accessed in the cavern systems under the castle. These extra caverns can hold up to 8000 people and have access to fresh water. The two branches of the Huntset river also add to the defences of the city by making it difficult to get to without costing time or the need of a boat.

Industry & Trade

There are many jobs to found in the city of Omynhil. Many work for the watermills, keeping them running, clearing water ways and general maintenance. The Guilded district is a good place to find a job if you know where to look. You can start a small businesses here or work for one of the many merchants both permanent or passing through. The Wylders Rift is always looking for new and upcoming bands to promote or Parveui willing to take on a band. There is also a small ship yard at the base of the cliff where you can join fishermen in their daily to do's. As for Omynhil's trade goods, they are well known for having the most diverse selection of trinkets, spices, plants, and creatures from the Feral Wyld. Because they house the main Guildhall for the Wylders Take they have a constant supply of strange things from the Wyld to sell or trade.

Infrastructure

The most notable infrastructure of Omynhil would be the underground watermills. These watermills were created by the druins who had called Omynhil their home before being exiled by the elves. The watermills help provide energy to the town as well as keep clean water flowing to each building in the town. The mills can also be used to flush out the sewer systems through the town when necessary. Three large bridges can be found in Omynhil. Two large sturdy bridges cross the two divides of the Huntset river. One of theses bridges leads towards the main roads connecting Dremith while the other less maintained bridge leads towards the Feral Wyld. At the bottom of the cliffs there is a small harbor that local fisherman use to tie up their boats. A few merchants have been known to have moored and launch their boats on these docks as well.

Districts

The city has been split into three separate districts. The first, being the Royal district, can be found inside the center ring of walls surrounding Omynhil. This is where the Monarchy and their court used to live, though the district is now home to those of a higher standing who didn't move to Redhall with the king and those who can afford too stay there. The second district, found just outside the Royal district, is the Guilded district. This is where the shops and guilds reside along with those who own them. The final District is the Working District where most of the cities population lives. It can be found on the edge of the city behind the outer wall.

Guilds and Factions

There are a number of guilds that call Omynhil home. Some of the more notable guilds would be the Wylders Rift and the Guilded Lotus. These guilds have called Omynhil home for many generations and have helped the city grow into what it is today. Since the Monarchy had relocated 5 years ago these guilds have stepped up to govern the town under the Kings rule.

History

The city of Omynhil started off as a small village with a few humans living there. They had constructed smaller homes that were partially burred in the ground and had few other buildings. This was during the Dragonsrule Era when Dragons had been the ruling race. When dragons had been wiped out during the Dragon Wars humans began to reproduce more and the village became a town. Soon elves arrived, then the Druin. Druin with their innate ability to control magic had taken up the position of rulers across the lands. One had decided that Omynhil was to be their kingdom and had a large castle erected near the center of town and a third river dug to the center around the large hole. Many more building were erected after the castle was instated and many creatures of all races moved into Omynhil, cutting down much of the forest around it to build the city up around them. after the fall of the Druin and the Abandonment the City continued to thrive with the Festival of Inspired Beauty and the grand opening of the Wylders Rift bringing more people to the city. Three walls had been built over the years one around the original city and the castle another when the city boomed during the Druin reign and another more recently during the reign of the elves.

Points of interest

In Omynhil a large castle made of dark wood can be found near the center of the city. This castle was once home to the Monarchy of Dremith before they constructed a different castle and relocated 5 years ago. The castle now lays empty, a towering dark omen over the city framed in lighting from the frequent storms rolling in. In the center of the city near the castle is a large pond with a large cavernous hole in the center that leads to a large underground cavern with branching tunnels. This cavern is connected to many of the cities water sources and watermills to provide the city with fresh clean water.

Tourism

Many travel to Omynhil to see the old castle built near the center of the city, as it is open to select few for guided tours. Others may come to Omynhil to see the main guild hall for the Wylders Rift, shop in the large shopping district, or to see and maybe take part of the Festival of Inspired Beauty held once every year.

Architecture

The architecture of the city has grown rather diverse over the centuries the city has existed. The oldest buildings, that can be dated back to the Dragonrule Era, are partially dug into the ground and reinforced with local stones and wood. Other buildings, dating from the Era of Blessing, stand tall and thin, made from the dark, almost black wood, of the Naror trees that can be found growing in the Feral Wyld. Many of the newest buildings though, are simply made of local stone and clay sourced from the cliff side or near by mountains and are described as plain and common. The Castle that stands tall near the cliffs of the city is made from the wood of Naror trees, giving it a gloomy and harsh look during the many storms that roll through Omynhil.

Geography

The city rests on the edge of a shorter cliff over looking the ocean, with hilly grass lands stretching out around it and a large river that splits in two, bracketing the city before waterfalling off the cliffs edge into the ocean below. A man made river branches off the two rivers and flows into the center of the city and pool around the large hole and . the center river flows around a large hole in the center of the city that leads into a large cavern connected by a natural cave system. The caves tunnel under the whole city and are used by its inhabitants as waterways, sewer systems, roads, and shelter incase of war.

Climate

The climate in Omynhil has been described as warm and damp. There is a constant breeze coming off the ocean that carries a bit of dampness with it which is partially why Omynhil is said to be damp but it is mostly because Omynhil often has a thunderstorm hanging over it.

Natural Resources

Some natural resources that can be accessed in Omynhil are freshwater and ocean fishing, while just outside the city there are hilly grasslands filled with crops and livestock.
