Ansrivarr
Notable Locations
Ollanas
The only major city on Ansrivarr is Ollanas, a large city built on the edge of the bay. It began as a small settlement for the local elven clan to live in, and slowly grew into a bustling port town. It was named after the legendary elven hero Ollana, who is said to have sacrificed his life in order to save the rest of his clan from the terrors of a sea monster, possibly a dragon turtle. It is now a major trading hub in the Jade Sea and thrives off its trade industry and its production of magical materials.
Áretaur
The great forest that covers the majority of Ansrivarr is known as Áretaur, the Forest of Sunlight. The forest is crisscrossed by hundreds or thousands of leylines, many of them major. They meet together in the center of Áretaur, creating a powerful magical undercurrent throughout the forest that emanates from this crossing. Such a strong presence of magic has attracted much flora and fauna that are otherwise rare.
The Great River
The Great river for which the island is named emerges from a spring at the center of the island, right at the crossing of the leylines. It follows a wide path, flowing swiftly south across its shallow bed until it reaches the bay. Its waters are clean and said to contain trace amounts of magic. It is believed that using water from the Great River in spells and potions will increase their potency.
Inhabitants
Ansrivarr is known as the ancestral home of the forest elves from the Jade Sea. As such, its population is comprised almost entirely of forest elves. It is also home to scattered tribes of Firbolg, some centaurs, and the fey that live near leyline crossings. Ansrivarr also has a population of goblins that mainly keep to themselves aside from the occasional raid on smaller villages and caravans.
Common Species of Ansrivarr
Ansrivarr is very well-known for its diverse range of flora and fauna. Many of these are magical, thanks to the abundance of leylines present in Áretaur.
Leyrose trees are abundant throughout the forest, sprouting wherever a crossing occurs. They are incredibly useful in magic work and attract small fey and a variety of flying insects, especially pollinators such as honeybees.
Many species of deer, rodents, and birds live in the forest. The trees provide plenty of shelter and food, and the waters of the Great River seem to help them thrive. Magical creatures also make their homes in these woods - unicorns, owlbears, blink dogs, and fey slimes are the most common. There are also less savory creatures wandering around like cockatrices and basilisks, so one must be careful when exploring Áretaur.
It is said that forest dragons also live in Áretaur, but they are very elusive and almost never seen by folk in the forest.
