Weapon Bonding

Overview

Only elven made weapons are capable of bonding and awakening, what that means is they gain a certain level of sentience and some magical abelites. No two weapons are alike. Mostly only the Anslata elves are capable of crafting these magical weapons and bond to them easily. However other races may bond to them under the right circumstances. Other races descended from vald elves have inherited certain quirks with their crafted weaponry. Such as their weapons having the ability wound a draconian creature and its wounds not healing supernaturally fast, making them heal at a normal speed. And having an easier time cutting through their hides. Vald elven weaponary however is nothing like Anslata weaponry. They are only really able to awaken or bond once they reach a great age such as a few hundred years old.

Crafting:

When an Anslata elf is crafting a weapon they follow four patterns.
First they give the weapon a name. Only the maker knows the name of the weapon until the weapon wishes to reveal its true name to its wielder.
Second they give it a purpose.
Third they give it a personality trait.
Finally they inscribe its nature, a combination of its purpose and personality onto the weapon in ancient elvish.
Once these steps have been made and the weapon finished a portion of the makers energy will be absorbed by the weapon. The maker usually feels week after a making is finished and will need food and rest to replenish their magical energy. Furthermore a weapon will always answer to its maker unless it is bonded to another.

Awakening:

A weapon will awaken once it is crafted. This is only true of Anslata craftsmanship no other race can do this. Once a weapon is awakened it can choose a host to bond with, and has a certain level of sentience. While in an unbonded state the weapons will act like a normal weapon. Only it will never rust, nor loose it's edge. It is effectively immune to ageing. Furthermore the older a blade is the stronger it becomes to the point where it may gain new abilities such as speech, or the ability to light on fire, generally anything that furthers it's purpose.

Bonding:

Bonded blades have an amazing range of abilities, some will always teleport to the one they have bonded too, some can speak telepathically to their bonded, or some will burn the hands of any who are not their bonded attempt to wield them. All weapons are different and posses differing abelites, But their abilities will always align with their nature and purpose. To bond to a weapon one must follow the weapons nature and earn its trust, only then will it attempt to bond with its wielder. Once bonded, a mark will b burned into the palm of their bonded's hand. The weapon will only bond to another upon the death of their current bonded or if their bonded taints their bond. Furthermore even for elves weapons don't easily bond, while its not quite rare it's not all together common for weapons to bond. Generally it's the weapons at least a hundred years of age that begin to bond. And even then their bonding is few and far between.
