Daine Treebound

Daine Treebound, also known by his nickname Deckie, was a lightfoot halfling pirate and member of the Brass Leviathan, who were around the year 532 around the continent of Aedinia. He was born in Phindanshire twenty-five years prior to the events of the Relic Hunters campaign (ca. 507 AC).

Appearance

Daine had lengthy, chestnut brown hair and amber eyes. He had a scar across his left eyebrow and a Greek nose. He had grown a goatee as to showcase that he wasn’t a child to people taller than him, which included most people he met. His pointy ears indicated that he was a Halfling, on which he would wear earrings, together with a bandana on his head as to indicate everywhere that he was part of a pirate group. He would wear darker marine colored poet shirts, breeches and leather boots. Sometimes he would wear a certain charm around his neck that supposedly increased his luck.

Personality

Having been raised to be very accepting of who people are by his parents, Daine would never act on prejudices of people he met. Instead he would let their character speak for themselves. Daine was a relatively calm guy who would only rarely lose his temper. Although he would commit theft as a pirate and enjoyed doing so, he would never steal from those who were worse off than most. Daine saw romantic relationships as a luxury he did not necessarily need. He would sometimes enjoy his time at brothels near ports he visited, but had never sought to settle down with someone. He had a brief fling with his childhood friend Willow, but they ended up being good friends in the end. Daine has been known to help others towards finding partners, most notably Eris , who he helped get together with Lyxsas in Asfales outpost, essentially acting as her wingman.

Beatriz Despadida

Daine has immense respect for his captain and strives to be like her. Their relationship is positive, yet when Beatriz was under charm of The Devoted, he was very afraid of what she would do to him and his friends, claiming that she was most likely going to kill all of them.

Willow

Willow and Daine are childhood friends, growing up together in Phindanshire. They were often teased by the villagers with claims that they would eventually end up having a family together, which they found annoying. Although they briefly dated, they decided staying friends would be better for both of them. This came back when they would split up after the wedding of Eris and Lyxsas, where he confessed to her before she left, meanwhile she claimed that she didn't like him like that. Willow was angry at Daine for leaving her alone when he left for the sea, but they quickly talked it out and she requested to join him on his journey. Daine reluctantly agreed as she wished to see the world. Both him and his friends would help her train and learn the ways of combat.

Eris

Daine could easily be called her best friend in the party. he would gladly help her with her problems and so would Eris. Most of their time in the Demon Lands was spend together as she cut of a piece of her hair and casted light on it so he could see in the dark. Deckie has also been known as her wingman, talking to Lyxsas for her, helping her cheat in a card game to impress Lyxsas when she simply asked him to read her cards. He got slightly intimidated when she nearly beat him at darts. Deckie voiced his concerns when he had to kill Casia and with how things ended for Phoebe, Eris simply took him in her arms and tried to comfort him.

Zero Beatdown

Zero and Daine are friends who share a brotherly relationship of sorts. When Zero told him about his amnesia and the mark on his hand, Daine tried to recall if he had ever seen it before but failed to do so, unaware about how closely related that mark was to the attack that left him stranded near Mytaneia.

Leodithas Auffrye

Leo and Daine share a friendly relationship. At times Leo would act as a paternal figure to the group, causing Daine to joke that he was his father.

Thorn

Thorn and Daine met when the former was kidnapped by the Argos, together with other people from Asfales outpost. After he was freed they fought together and a bond between Thorn and the group was formed.

Smugglers of Magic

During the events of the Smugglers of Magic campaign, it was revealed that Daine was still alive and kicking at roughly 147 years old. Many years after the forming of The Leviathan Fleet, he started captaining one of the flagships; The Platinum Leviathan. In the campaign, the Platinum Leviathan makes occasional visits to Bersail, where Daine oversaw some trading with the city and the Fishmongers.

  • 2 starting daggers - one was given to Leodithas when he was looking for new tools.
  • 1 goblinoid dagger - stolen from a stolen goblin whilst his own equipment was unavailable.
  • Pollie's dagger - snatched out of his hand when he tried casting a spell with it. Later returned to him when the group left him stranded at the Leviathan's shipwreck.
  • Beatriz's dagger - Found in the captain's quarters of the Leviathan's shipwreck behind a pillow. It is laced with gems. Daine currently uses it as his main dagger.
• Lucky Charm - an artifact that the Brass Leviathan came into possession of not long before they were attacked by the devoted. It supposedly holds unknown power. Daine believes it increases his luck with someone when he actively shows it to someone, whilst it cripples his normal luck when it isnt shown. The item description simply states that it is cursed.
• Multiple bottles of wine - Found together with Stivel in an abandoned winery shortly before leaving for Lytrin. Most of them were consumes during Lyxsas and Eris' wedding.
• Goggles of Night - Found at sea after the group interacted with a giant seal. The aquatic mammal brought it to the party and Daine was the first person to grab it. It grants him 60 feet of Darkvision.
• Studded leather armor.
• One Arlyndas Stone - Used to possess all five discovered in Mytanea but decided it was safer to split them with the party.

Trivia

• Deckie was created before the player even knew the setting of the campaign, all he knew is that he wanted to play a small race, swashbuckler rogue and wanted to be a pirate, no matter what.
• Although alignment is not used in Gajas, Deckie's player said that his alignment is 'Little Shit'.
  • Late into the first arc, He decided that if Daine would have to count as any alignment, it is Chaotic Neutral, although he is Lawful towards his crew and captain
• It has been joked that despite his size, Daine is the best one in the party at holding his liquor, given that he is a pirate he would have drank a lot of alcoholic drinks including Beer, Whiskey and Rum. When the party spent downtime in Tribulys, he had the highest constitution roll to not be intoxicated. In Bibia, he and Willow shared an expensive bottle of wine without them getting as much as tipsy.
  • The last part canonized the fact in Gajas that Halflings are disproportionally good at drinking, as they can drink more than the average human despite being half their size.
