Garon, the First Sorcerer

Master of Leywoven Truths

Garon is known as the God of Arcane Order and is the lastborn of the Drakanii Pantheon.
He is considered the god of magic, knowledge, and order.   Wielding an unrivaled mastery over the essence of mana itself, Garon is said to have woven its chaotic energies into magic, allowing all others to use its power to shape their lives. From within the great library at the core of the world tree, his studies never cease in his charge to keep these energies from running rampant across all realms. Born into the form of a hydra, it is said that he maintains perfect concentration with several of his heads in order to perform his duties, which if broken could tear the world asunder.

Appearance

Garon's true form is said to be that of a great black hydra, adorned with golden scales glowing with arcane brilliance, as well as flames of gold and azure dancing across his horns. Although ancient depictions do vary in the amount of heads, it is generally accepted that modern statues and carvings are to have five in total. Three of these are ever locked in deep concentration, one gazing out at the realms with vigilant eyes, and the final one lost in his endless studies of the world.   Select depictions also paint him as a great sage in a shimmering blue robe, his form that of those who follow him, commonly either high elven or human. More commonly, however, he is presented as a dragonborn sage, often accompanied by an owl companion serving as his trusted familiar and eyes across Gailardia.

Personality

His very charge brands Garon as a soul who greatly values order in all things, which further extends to his devotion to his studies. Stories speak of his fervor in maintaining a tidy study, as well as archiving every little scrap of new knowledge within the great library of Maxim. It's said that his fury can only be summoned by disrupting his organized systems, otherwise remaining far too busy to spend his energy on raw emotion.   His scholarly mind also makes him greatly appreciate those who enjoy any path of knowledge. Those who share his desire to devote themselves to their studies are said to receive flashes of inspiration from Garon himself, having lead to many great discoveries in the past. It's widely believed that he is one of the most diligent of all the deities, his mind always deep in thought as he continues to bring order to the chaos of mana in its raw form.   Serving as the supreme keeper of knowledge, it's believed that Garon's many minds contain the most sacred truths of the universe. This makes him very cautious of those who fail to prove themselves in his eyes as true students of order and truth. Tales told by the eldest hydras speak of his passion for order stemming from a desire to protect his siblings, hoping they never have to bear the burden of commanding the untold powers he continuously keeps in check.

Abilities

Garon's mastery of mana and lordship over magic itself makes him the most powerful mage of all the deities. With little effort would he be able to lay waste to entire regions and rebuild them moments after. His vast knowledge also allows him to be well prepared for any and all encounters before him, having seen his foes coming before they even set foot into his domain. From conjuring the elements to changing his own shape and bending the minds of others, there's little he can't achieve with his arcane might.   His divine form as a hydra allows him a wide variety of arcane-infused breath attacks, should he wish to dispose of trespassers more directly. Although wielding great strength, he's not considered a martial fighter, focusing on the power and range of his draconic breaths or the magic he commands. Other skills gained from his mastery of magic includes shapechanging to any form, teleportation across realms in the blink of an eye, and communicating with any and all creatures with little effort.

Worship

While most nations have long held other deities in higher regard than Garon, they remain ever respectful of the one who've blessed their lives with magic. Scholars and mages from every corner of the world are known to offer prayers in his name and seek his guidance in their daily studies. Select colleges are known to worship him and his disciples, a faith that's become more prominent on Abynnia due to the genasi, while the local kobolds and hydras have long been faithful to their ancient master.   Those who pay homage to Garon are often busy souls, locked away in their studies on a daily basis. These followers are commonly quite diligent and seek out new knowledge whenever possible. They rarely care much for anything else, living humble lives in service of their quest for truth and wisdom. But while many remain within the safety of city walls, others take up a more adventurous approach, seeking out ancient ruins and aiming to venture beyond the material plane in search of knowledge that none have yet catalogued in the tomes of mortalkind.
