The Telosian Islands (Tee-los)

The Telosian islands are a chain of tropical islands off the coast of Northern Gateway, and part of the larger Pakau Archipelago. The Telosian Islands are made up of Telos Island, Heirani Island, Nissai Island, Kaiamana Isle, Keanu Isle, and U'ilani Island.   These islands make up the tribal isles of Telos, which fall under the Chieftain's realm.   The entire island chain is shared with the more wild Pakau Archipelago, and both Massiez'Laire and Bellings have fought each other over these islands for decades to have rights and access to their resources. For a time Massiez'Laire even held claim over the Telosian Islands and considered it part of the territory. Imperial ruins can be found all around the islands, and often attract many tourists and Guild of Lore scholars to study them.

Structure

The Chieftain is considered the leader of the Islands, it has traditionally been within a Foxian family that oversees the islands. Every 100 years there is a moot that chooses the family that shall lead their nations into the future. The Apuoka family has had this title for nearly a millennium.   The Chief family is chosen by the islands' village elders. Due to their Imperial subjugation in the past, the title of "king" or "Queen" are forbidden to be used as names of Leadership. Each village has it's elder who in turn act as governors to their towns.

Culture

The culture of Telos is a very laid back one. The Foxians share their home with a mysterious avian race known as the Aviac. They are unsure of where they came from but both live in harmony and keep the islands serene. Telos is one of the worlds' biggest tourist destinations. Their main income is tourism. They have modernized as well. In the Big cities, they hold electricity and digital connections to the world like any other developed nation. It is only in the far off and remote islands that these may not be present.   The Foxians are known to be very laid back and tolerant of outsiders, they even at times take advantage of them and taker their Gaios for far more than what some items are worth. It is not rare to be swindled by a Foxian when dealing with business. However most of the merchants are sincere, especially in the major cities.   One may find open air gazebos within the Palm Forests. these are usually built by Foxian vagabonds that travel the internal trails often. Some are even open to visitors. For a people that were once isolated, the Foxians are extremely welcoming and open for a Beastmen culture.   The Aviacs are a bit less social, however there is a family that became a Telosian tradition in the main city of Telos. This has been a flock of aviacs that acted as greeters to the visitors of the island. It was a good deed that became a tradition to feel how welcoming Telos really is. As a result people feel invited and remain to spend their hard earned Gaios.   The islands are also popular with rich Gaians that desire a home. The land sells greatly for private homes, and real estate is another big income driver for the government. Aside from being very expensive, the applicant for a piece of land in the Islands must apply for Telosian citizenship, and abide by the rules of the Chieftain. The rules are mostly courteous rules and laws that add to the friendliness of Telos as a whole.

Technological Level

Despite being a tribal elective monarchy, Telos is surprisingly up-to date on technology of the world. Internet access is commonplace in the major cities as is electricity and automotive transportation. In fact Some companies in Telos even own a cruise ship or two. Despite being seen as a tropical paradise, the cities and nation as a whole are tightly ingrained within the world's Mass-media. They have Massiez'Laire to thank for this, as they did for a time hold them as a protectorate and eventually colony. Massiez'Laire then granted Telos it's independence after a petition was put forth to the new government of Masiez'Laire.   Telos' Military is small but quite modern, as they hold training games with Massiez'Laire's own Navy, which is the largest of all Gaia's. As a result, Telos maintains a very surprisingly modern navy. However they use the Massiez'Laire military ports as staging areas for their navy, to not give the impression of militarist influence through the islands themselves.
