Tannery
A northside neighborhood that straddles Demurgent Avenue, the Tannery had supposedly been the site of a small farm and leatherworks back in the early days of Gaia-18, when Vesper Sound was still a collection of loosely-affiliated villages. "The townsfolk resisted incorporation into the City of Light as it continued expansion southward from the coastline, but ultimately the farmland was controlled by Arthar Cressid, who had aspirations of joining the Gods of Paradise under Gaia-18, and happily sold the land. The grazing fields were soon replaced with company housing for various factories that would eventually travel to Coal Island, leaving the erstwhile villagers twice unemployed and without homes. The housing was soon after bought up by small-time investors with stakes in many of the businesses that would be purchased and demolished during the First Tech Boom, resulting in a cozy neighborhood of homeowners wealthy enough to avoid wage work, but not so wealthy as to deliver their children from that same burden. Most of the modern inhabitants were staring down the barrel of eternity alone, their children and grandchildren long since immigrated to faraway neighborhoods, leaving the once savvy investors isolated and forgotten." - Prospertine & the City of Light, CH 28
