Hafferty Jov

Called "Haff" by most, Hafferty Jov is a Synthetic of the Second Generation. He attained minor celebrity twenty-five years ago by leading the Vesperian Hoplites to victory in the Vesperi-Neruseri conflict, in which Vesperian ownership rights were secured against Neruseri terrorists. Upon his return, he is believed to have worked directly for the Compound until either '47 or '48, when he acquired a detective's license and worked as a private investigator, before parlaying his experience into a brief career with the whitehounds. BOOK 1 - Prospertine & the City of Light

Haff spends the first half of Book 1 hunting down data thieves with Prospertine. Their investigation eventually brings them into violent confrontation with Kaz, a terrorist leader, on Coal Island. There, Prospertine's reckless actions put them into conflict with the state, but Haff offers himself as a scapegoat, to protect Prospertine. He is subsequently exiled from the City of Light.

BOOK 2 - Prospertine: Equinox

Haff appears in "Equinox," as a prisoner being held in Neruseru for war crimes, due to his role in the Vesperi-Neruseri War of '29. He is used as a political football by Vesper, Tsui Shoa, and Kinsetaria, each using him as a proxy to determine who holds jurisdiction over Neruseru, Prospertine eventually helps Tsui Shoa claim him (and herself) as a political prisoner.
