Faeries
Faeries are small, flying elemental creatures resembling multicolored fireflies or dragonflies. They have two to six wings, two to eight legs and two eyes. Their scaled bodies can have all kind of colors, including multiple at one time. Faeries are usually smaller than one centimetri and lighter than a grain of sand.
Like all living creatures, faeries have a Will. They are usually born with one or more elemental cores and the ability to use the associated magic in powerful ways. Despite their extremely small size, faeries can be very powerful magic users and upsetting one can have disastrous consequences.
While the small creatures are unable to speak, they are extremely smart and can communicate with humans and other beings through visions. Faeries can have a wide range of personalities and aspirations and many enjoy human company or are fascinated by human societies.
This fascination is also likely what motivates faeries to be tied to artifacts using faercrafting. Even though faeries are seemingly fleeting creatures, becoming part of a faercrafted artifact is something most faeries do willingly and even enthusiastically. Some scholars speculate that this is because faeries are able to manipulate humans in this manner.
