War of Salt and Wrath
The early history of the men of the south is a harsh period, enslaved by the Panthera and used as manual labor. Abused and malnourished by their cruel masters, the men long feared death at the hands of powerful Panthera. It wasn't until a charasmatic slave leader was able rally his people that there was any hope. This man carried himself well, unbowed by the tourment of the Panther he was called the unbroken by his people. Speaking of rebelion, and freedom it wasn't long before he caught the attention of the Panthera, and their guards came to arrest him. Unfortunately the Panthera sent few to arrest this man, and his followers rose up against them. Using their tools to defend their leader they struck down the guards. This act of defiance served as the flash point, and rallied many slaves to the Unbroken's cause. Liberating the slaves from the surrounding area, the rebel army grew, securing its territory against the Panthera. The rebels knew they lacked the man power, training, or equipment to fight a war of this size so they requested the aid of the Atherans. The Atherans felt deeply for the plight of the men of the south, and sent a significant force to their aid. The majority of the Atheran Legion was deployed to the south with large stores of food, weapons, and armor to resupply rebel army. With the arrival of the Atherans. The momentum of the war shifted swiftly in favor of the Humans, this combined army was to great and organized a force for the Panthera to overcome. The first city fell to the humans, and the masacre that followed shook the resolve of the Atherans. They continued to fight alongside the Rebels as more cities fell, but as it became clear the men of the south intended to destroy the Panthera, the Atherans returned home. Unwilling to destroy an entire race the Immortal took his men home saying he did not know the consequences of such actions and would not be apart of it.
It was however to late to stop the men of the south. They had come into their own as warriors having learned much from the Atherans and their Pantheran enemies. The war was continued without much change in the loss of the Atherans, and city after city fell their inhabitants driven out into the harsh deserts beyond. It was only a few years before all cities had fallen to the men of the south, and the once mighty Panthera were reduced to Nomads wandering the deserts.
Reconstruction
After the war the once slave had risen to take rule of the lands he liberated. Naming himself the Shah, great king of kings he ruled from the first city he liberated, _. This city was on the northern coast facing Athera and would become the hub of commerce as life normalized for his people. His first step was to put protections for laborer into law, so that they would always be paid fair wage. He never intended to repeat the terrible slavery he and his people had endured. With these protections in place, many returned to the work they had once known, now supporting themselves with their wages. New coins were issued and trade with Athera was reestablished. This influx of coin from Athera helped fund the kings works as he repared the cities that he had conquered. The cities flurished under his new leadership, and expanded into beautiful pinnacles of human civilization. It was in this era of reconstruction and economic prosperity which began the Watchful Peace. A term the Shah coined himself, as he and his people would eye the desert for the return of the Panthera. Fearful that somehow out of the desert would return an army bent on reclaiming their old kingdom.
