Magic System

The laws of magic in the Florenelle setting

Types of Magic

Florenelle has an abundance of magic. It's all a matter of being able to hone how you've gained it. In the end, it all works in the same theoretical way: It's about how well you can force your will on the world. Perhaps you can cast things easier with music and song. Perhaps a magic item helps you regulate the power within you from backfiring. Whatever the case, there are various techniques of using magic.

Arcana

Arcane magic is the purest form of magic. You could be born with a strong tie to it or perhaps you've trained your "mental muscles" on how to wield it. This form of magic is found deep within you and is impossible to take away. Keep in mind, it can't be taken away but it can be shunted by other casters or magic items.

Divine

The gifted form of magic. Essentially, someone is granted this power from another person who is practically double (or more) compared to them. Generally, this sort of magic is strained and is a reflection of who bestowed it. Any misuse of the gifter's wishes can be removed, should the gifter be able to catch the perpetrator.

Eldritch

Eldritch magic is a strange and twisted combination of the arcane and divine methods. It is a gift most commonly given from Kordgelle or the Gathering. To understand it, think of it as casting magic without the need for the muscle or faith. It is a dangerous and volatile type that can be abused in the wrong hands.

Spellcasting

Because one can't simply wave their arm upwards to sprout a tree to grow, there must be a trained and precise way of doing so. Sometimes, a focus that's imbued with the arcane helps aid the caster's efforts. Music has also been another method, as some utilize this method to instill their will on the world more easily.

Magic Objects

Magic items would technically constitute as eldritch magic as it is a "pre-charged" form of use, assuming a caster has enough power to pour magic into an item. Items are often rare, as the magic casters imbue into items either fade away over time or regenerate the magic energy that was expended.

Anti-Magic and Resistance

Some spellcasters or items have the power to shunt out the supernatural force within others temporarily, leaving them without their "magic muscle" to rely on. To have resistance to magic means that you have trained to resist against the various forms of it and have developed a thick skin to repel them far more easily.
