Cael (sai-ell)

Celestial Creatures of Haven

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Lesser Caels

Spirit

When first formed, caels start out as formless spirits. Their duties are to act as simple messengers between their older kind and to act as their voice to mortals.

Radiant

When a cael finally takes form, it takes on a humanoid shape but its entire build glows a heavenly radiance. Their duties then shift into performing various actions for Haven’s sake. Whether as personal guards for Revered priests, attendees at a church, or something else that is required.

Corporeal

These caels have access to a full physical form. Their lineage of Haven is still clear in their features with glowing eyes and skin tone. Corporeals undertake critical, if not far more dangerous tasks. They often ensure that Maledict’s influence stays minimal.

Greater Cael

Divine

The final stage for most caels. Their physical form becomes a little more odd. They may have four arms, multiple sets of wings, floating decorum around their figure, and other major giveaways of their divine state of being. Divines ensure the safety of Haven’s wellbeing and personally guards the Reverie’s Pontiff.

Virtuous

A virtuous is a special stage reserved for exemplary caels. Figures such as Renaki, Ornsen, and the like are examples of those who are of this profound state. Virtuous caels have unique forms compared to lesser caels. The duty of the virtuous are to act as leaders for all cael kind, specifically for the domain they chose to represent.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Caels in general follow a gerontocracy structure. At the top are the deities of the Reverie who blessed the Kingdom of Ardentry when it first arose. Beneath them is where it becomes less of a structure and more of a harmony in coordinating with the other.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Aura Sensitivity

A cael is capable of sensing a creature’s or location’s aura. This aura namely provides the cael a basic feeling of whether or not the subject in question is to what degree a good or bad individual. This sort of sense they carry is necessary as they are affected by an overall atmosphere similar to a hot or cold scenario. Caels are far happier and comfortable to be around moral and upstanding mortals who stay faithful and help their community. Those who have a criminal record and are selfish individuals will unease a cael.

This sense is necessary as faithful and optimistic areas allows it to work its divinity to help aid mortals more easily. In the wretched and squalid parts of town where crime is rampant, younger caels may even feel a sense of nausea when in the area. That is why they are insistent to mortals that if they hope to gain a cael’s notice for divine intervention, stay clean, moral, and just in order to create an aura that is inviting for them.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Order of Candescence

A fallen cael named Sullus founded the Order of Candescence. He believes that a core flaw with the caels and the Reverie is their hierarchies and how messages must filter down through that chain of command. That is why abuses of power happen with the Revered and the caels simply stay distant, letting it happen. This cael hopes to take a different approach and structure for mortals to undertake by him taking a more direct approach with leadership.

Sullus and his peers within the Reverie still respect each other’s methods since they both want the betterment of mortals. What sours things between them is the lack of a unified approach. The Revered focus on good will and kindness while the Candescent emphasize discipline and reliability.

Reverie

The Reverie is a religion mortals look up to in order to receive various divine aid, blessings, and other assistance from the caels. To be noticed by lesser caels is a common thing but for the likes of Ornsen or Tulmek, one must have done great deeds or is in dire circumstances for them to intervene.

Common Taboos

Morally gray questions or topics can really agitate a cael. For example, the death penalty. A division will quickly occur between those who believe that all life is sacred while another division believes that killing one to ensure the survival of the most is optimal.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Complications of Mortals

Caels truly do wish to provide mortals the best wellbeing possible. The problem is that, because they sequester themselves frequently in Haven, caels are effectively out of touch with how mortals act around their own kind. That is why a lot of their decrees or coordinations rely heavily on mortals interacting with their own, believing that they will have an easier time understanding divine commandments by their peers than a distant cael that speaks differently.
