Unicorn

General Description

Unicorns, the horse's magical cousins - not at all just genetically "modified" descendants of horses, no siree bob - are most commonly found in Fairy Gardens Gardens.

As far as their appearance goes, they look like slightly heavier and stockier built horses you may be used to seeing in your world. Like an oversized pony with a horn. Also they come in all sorts of different magical colors. They are quite intelligent and tend to be stronger than your average horse, and are known to exhibit some magical powers as well, as expected for a unicorn. These magical abilities are a big part of why modern people chose to breed unicorns, rather than regular horses.

History, Abilities and Use

Unicorns have been people’s companions almost from the beginning of the New World. They’ve been quite useful for helping people with many tasks, from transport of people and goods, to later farming and other tasks people were unable to do themselves, and of course for their magical powers. Their horns have the ability to purify water as well as healing powers[1]; both very important in a time where clean water and medicine were hard to come by.

While the rest of the world has changed, unicorns are still used and valued today for these same things in the farmlands of Fairy Gardens and Wasteland of T@Ö#Ä3. Though more advanced farming machinery is available today, many people there still prefer living a more simple, off the grid lifestyle. They still utilize unicorns for work, transport, as well as their magical powers. In these distant lands clean water and medicine are still not as easily accessible as they are in big cities in the rest of the world.

Because of their usefulness and versatility you’ll hardly find a farm that doesn’t own at least one unicorn, and on the roads you’ll sooner pass a traveler on a unicorn than a car. Or a tractor. If you find yourself traveling around Fairy Gardens, tractors and unicorns are the way to go.

Significance in People's Lives

As hard working magical companions to people, unicorns played a very important role in rebuilding the New World after the apocalypse, and they still do play a very important role in people’s lives today. For these reasons they are considered to be one to the most respected animals of today’s world. In farmlands of Fairy Gardens in particular they are treated with utmost respect and are considered to be a part of the family.
An annual unicorn celebration is held in Fairy Gardens where people bring their unicorn to show them off. The most beautiful and magical one is chosen to win an award.

In the cities it’s a bit harder to own a unicorn, but that doesn’t stop people. While they may not be able to own a real animal, unicorns are very popular as characters in kids cartoons, toys, plushies and decor. There is even a brand of collectible unicorn toys, very popular among kids and adults alike. The rare ones may be worth a fortune, possibly even as much as a real unicorn! These can be shown off, sold or traded in unicorn conventions held in the cities.

Notes:

[1] - This has never been 100% confirmed, just because no one died from drinking water it doesn't mean it was because it was purified by unicorn's horn. Healing powers are yet to be confirmed as well.
